J&K: Two youths killed as CRPF open fire on protesters; Hurriyat calls for strike tomorrow

Srinagar: Two persons were today killed allegedly by CRPF when the paramilitary personnel were attacked by a rampaging mob following an encounter with militants in Sopore town of north Kashmir this evening.

Two youth were killed in Sopore town in North Kashmir Friday evening as security
personnel, returning from a gunfight, and opened fire when a violent mob attacked their vehicle and set it ablaze, police said.

Jamia cracks down on impersonators during admissions

New Delhi : The Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) university said it has detected eight cases of impersonation in the admission process.

According to university officials, the crime was detected when the photographs of the youths who appeared for an interview to the B.Tech programme did not match that of those who took the entrance examination.

According to university officials, in six cases the students appearing for the interview were different from those who appeared in the entrance test.

Jamia cracks biggest case of impersonation

Srinagar : Life across Srinagar was affected Friday by a separatist shutdown called against alleged human rights violations and the detention of hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani.

India increases ex-gratia, relief for Bhopal victims

New Delhi : India Thursday announced a hike in ex-gratia relief for the Bhopal gas tragedy victims with the cabinet approving assistance of Rs.1,265.56 crore for the medical and social rehabilitation of those affected by the world's worst industrial disaster.

The cabinet also said it was examining ways to extradite then Union Carbide chief Warren Anderson, whom a Bhopal court has declared a proclaimed offender. The decisions are in keeping with the recommendations of a ministerial panel headed by Home Minister P. Chidambaram.

New Delhi : India Thursday announced a hike in compensation for the Bhopal gas tragedy victims and also said it is examining ways to extradite then Union Carbide chief Warren Anderson, whom a Bhopal court has declared a proclaimed offender.

Facts at a glance -

* Rs.1,000,000 would be paid to the next of kin of the dead, Rs.500,000 to those suffering permanent disability and Rs.200,000 to those suffering from cancer or renal failure and Rs. 100,000 to those with temporary disability. This move will help 45,000 people and it will cost government Rs.650-700 crore.

Sohrabuddin killing: Three cops' bail plea rejected

Gandhinagar : A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court Thursday rejected the bail applications of three policemen accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh staged shooting case.

The bail applications moved by two Rajsthan policemen and a Gujarat policeman, were rejected by Special CBI Judge A.Y. Dave.

Himanshusinh Rajavat and Shamsinh Charan, sub-inspectors of Rajasthan Police, and Narsinh Dabhi, an inspector with Gujarat Police, moved bail pleas before the court on the ground of delay in filing of CBI's chargesheet.
