Lucknow: Living upto the ganga jamuni tehzeeb in the city of nawabs, the Hussain Day Celebration and Welfare Society organised a bhandara and drinking water stall outside Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) office on Tuesday. The stall was organised to celebrate the second Tuesday of the Jyestha month as per Vikram Samvat calendar.

Camp opens for Ajmer Sharif pilgrims

New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Tuesday opened a 20-day transit camp for pilgrims going for the annual Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti at Ajmer Sharif.

Set up at Burari in north Delhi for the 10th time in a row, the transit camp will cater to the pilgrims from several parts of the country on their way to Ajmer to attend the 798th annual Urs.

In her address, Dikshit urged the pilgrims to pray for the unity and brotherhood at Ajmer Sharif.

New Delhi : Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Raj Kumar Chouhan Tuesday urged thousands of pilgrims travelling to Ajmer Sharif to pray for the success of the Commonwealth Games to be held in October.

Chouhan was speaking at a function on the inauguration of a transit camp for pilgrims, who will attend the 798th annual Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti at Ajmer Sharif.

"We request you to pray for the success of the Commonwealth Games to be hosted by the city in October," Chouhan said.

New Delhi : Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily Tuesday said the time has come to "revisit" the process of justice and investigations, following the delayed verdict of the Bhopal gas tragedy.

"There shouldn't only be reactions and talking, but a consistent system of law, justice and also preventive methods," Moily said to NDTV channel.

A city court in Bhopal Tuesday convicted eight people for the Bhopal gas tragedy, which was the biggest industrial disaster in the world. "It is the greatest tragedy that has happened in India," he said.

New York : The killing of three men by soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir in an apparent "faked encounter with so-called militants" underlines the urgency for India to repeal a tough military legislation, Human Rights Watch has said.

Under the Armed Forces Special Powers (Jammu and Kashmir) Act (AFSPA), which has been in force in Jammu and Kashmir since 1990, soldiers may not be prosecuted in a civilian court unless New Delhi sanctions it, it said in a report Monday.

Chennai: Jasmin Banu, the Tamil Nadu topper of Class X exam 2010, was today felicitated by Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) here. Banu of Tirunalveli Town MPL High School topped the entire state in board exam by scoring 495 marks out of 500.

At felicitation program held at TMMK office, Banu who was accompanied by her parents was presented a laptop on her achievement. "My hard work paid me," said she who comes from a below average family. She studied at a government school.

Kochi: It can't be said now if PDP chairman Abdunnasir Madani would be charged in the Bengaluru blast case, said Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Shanker Bidri. The investigating team is examining the file related to the blast. Talks are going on whether more persons should be included in the chargesheet or not.

The Bengaluru police had last day questioned Madani and wife Soofiya in Kochi. And rumours that Madani is accused in the case also came up.

US rules out new probe in Bhopal gas leak tragedy

Washington : The United States has ruled out reopening any new inquiry against Union Carbide after an Indian court's verdict in the 1984 Bhopal gas leak that killed over 3,000 people, hoping it would bring closure to the probe into the tragedy.

"Obviously this was one of the greatest industrial tragedies and industrial accidents in human history," US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Robert Blake told reporters Monday. "We hope that this verdict today helps to bring some closure to the victims and their families."

New Delhi : The Congress Monday expressed its disappointment over the delay in justice to the victims of Bhopal gas tragedy, saying the administrative and judicial system should be capable of early decisions.

"People who feel that the victims (of Bhopal gas tragedy) should have got justice earlier are right. It is a serious question. The system should be such that there is no delay in providing justice in such tragedies," Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi told reporters.

Curfew in Madhya Pradesh town after communal clashes

Bhopal : Curfew was clamped in Madhya Pradesh's Obaidullahganj town in Raisen district following communal clashes, officials said Monday.

"A person named Rupesh had a quarrel during a marriage ceremony in a Muslim family in his neighbourhood late Sunday. Later during firing from both sides two people were injured. But the situation was brought under control," a police official said.

Monday morning men belonging to one community burnt shops of the other community, police said.

Apex court issues notice to CBI in Rizwanur case

New Delhi : The Supreme Court Monday issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on whether the agency could re-investigate the "murder" of Rizwanur Rehman who died under mysterious circumstances in Kolkata after marrying a business tycoon's daughter.

The apex court, however, declined to stay the operation of the Calcutta High Court order by which it had asked the CBI to hold investigation into the "murder".

PM expects more success stories from Kashmir
