Muslim groups demand closure of Israeli embassy in India

New Delhi: Muslim organisations will Friday take out a march in the Indian capital to protest the attack by Israeli commandos on a Gaza aid flotilla that killed 16 activists May 30, and demand the closure of Israeli embassy in India.

The coordinator of the march S.Q.R. Ilyas said: "We will demand from the government of India to convey the feelings of Indian people to the Israeli government and also demand the closure of the Israeli embassy and severing of all trade and military ties with Israel."

Minorities, deprived classes lost faith in CPI-M: Ahamed

New Delhi: Minorities and other deprived sections have lost their faith in the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-led Left Front government in West Bengal and they voted for parties opposing its "anti-people" policies, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) chief and central minister E.Ahamed Thursday said.

Congratulating Trinamool Congress chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, Ahamed, who is also her deputy in the ministry, said the Trinamool Congress's civic poll victory in the state is "a victory of justice".

Yasin Malik on hunger strike to protest alleged fake encounter

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik today began a hunger strike in Nadihal-Rafiabad in north Kashmir to protest the killing of three youths in an alleged fake encounter by Army on April 30.

Malik along with his close associates reached Nadihal this morning and started the hunger strike at the main chowk of the town with locals also joining it, officials said.

The hunger strike comes barely two days after Malik-led JKLF took out a march from party headquarters at Maisuma to protest the killings.

Emirates India Fraternity member Basheer Mosabba dies in Dubai

Dubai: An active member of Emirates India Fraternity Forum and social activist Basheer Mosabba, who belonged to Shirthadi town in Karnataka, passed away while jogging on May 27 morning on Ajman beach in Dubai. His body was flown to India on June 1 and buried in his hometown yesterday. He is survived by wife and two young kids.

In India too the two sects are opposed to each other though here, due to democratic secular polity, nature of conflict is not very aggravated or violent. The partisans of both the ideologies apart, it confuses many Muslims as to what are their differences about and why they condemn each other?

The students are on a study tour to learn Urdu/Hindi languages and Indian history and culture. The group yesterday met AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis at his residence.

The group of students of University of North Carolina is headed by Dr. Afroz Taj, Associate Professor of South Asian Languages and Literatures.

More higher secondary seats for Malabar

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government decided to allow more seats in the higher secondary for Malabar. Higher secondary courses would be allowed in 120 panchayats in the seven districts from Thrissur to Kasargode. The government reportedly plans to begin the courses in this academic year itself. The decision was taken in the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.

Yasin Malik on hunger strike in Kashmir

Srinagar : Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik Thursday went on a daylong hunger strike, along with 30 party activists, in north Kashmir's Nadihal village to protest the murders of three villagers in a staged shootout April 30.

"Acts like these are committed to suppress the ongoing freedom movement. The international community must investigate such crimes to expose the designs of the security forces to muzzle the voice of the freedom-seeking people of Kashmir," Malik told reporters in Srinagar before leaving for Nadihal village in Rafiabad.

Police to seek custody of army officer in fake shootout case

Srinagar : The Jammu and Kashmir Police will seek the custody of an Indian Army major accused of killing three villagers April 30 in a staged shootout in the Machil sector of the Line of Control (LoC) that divides the state between India and Pakistan.

"The accused officer has been identified as Major Bhupender of 4 Rajputana Rifles and we are completing formalities to seek his custody from the army," a senior police officer said here.

He said the papers for custody of the accused officer would be sent to the army within two days.

22 Muslims elected to Kolkata Municipal Corporation

Kolkata: In total 22 Muslims have got elected to Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Eleven of them are from Trinamul Congress – the party of Union Minister Mamata Banerjee has swept the civic body elections held on May 30. The elections were held in 80 municipalities in West Bengal.

Out of 141 Wards in Kolkata Municipal Corporation area, Muslims have won on 22 seats – 11 from Trinamul, 8 from Left Front and 3 from Congress.
