As a part of "Quit Kashmir" movement, Hurriyat Conference (G) on Saturday announced another fresh protest programme for the next few days. The Statement issued by Hurriyat (G) says that fresh protest calendar was Presided by acting chairman of Hurriyat (G) G.N. Sumji.

| Modi indulging in sensationalism: Singhvi Posted: 31 Jul 2010 08:13 AM PDT By IANS, Bangalore: The Congress Saturday charged Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi with indulging in "sensationalism" and "dramatics" with his rhetoric on the Sohrabuddin Sheikh case. Defending the Central Bureau of Investigation's plea to the Supreme Court to transfer the case out of Gujarat, Congress party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said it showed lack of confidence in the Gujarat government's prosecution agency.

Three protesters were injured in firing by security forces.

"It was quite shameful and it shouldn't have happened in the first place," he added. Talking to the press at the Press Club of India, Mr. Rahiman accepted that people who chopped off Prof Joseph's hand were PFI members.

| Apex court rejects Maharashtra plea on 1993 mosque firing Posted: 30 Jul 2010 10:30 PM PDT By IANS, New Delhi: In a blow to the Maharashtra government, the Supreme Court Friday rejected its petition and directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to continue with its probe into the Hari Masjid police firing on Jan 10, 1993, in which six people were killed. The police firing was to quell a violent mob at Hari Masjid area of Mumbai, one of the incidents of communal violence that took place in many parts of the country including Mumbai in the aftermath of the 1992 demolition of Babri mosque in Ayodhya.

In the partly heard matter, advocate S.H. Iyer who appeared for the petitioner Shabbir Jamal, made his submissions by reading the FIR in the open court. Interestingly, a senior advocate who appeared for one of the respondents objected reporting of the case in the media, which was rejected by the single judge, Akil Kureshi.

| Police files chargesheet in Prajapati killing Posted: 30 Jul 2010 10:24 PM PDT By IANS, Gandhinagar: The Gujarat police moved to file the chargesheet in the killing of Tulsiram Prajapati in a staged shootout in the court Friday even as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed the interim report of its probe into the 2005 killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh before the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the questioning of former minister Amit Shah, allegedly involved in the killing of Sheikh, by the CBI concluded here Friday. His house in Ahmedabad was also searched by CBI officers who have directed the income tax authorities to probe his assets and income.

Achuthanandan to apologise for his statement that the outfit is aiming to convert the state to a Muslim dominated one using "money and marriages". The outfit, whose activists have been accused of chopping off a hand of a college professor for allegedly making derogatory references to Prophet Mohammed, warned that such a statement by the chief minister would "only endanger communal harmony existing in the state".

| CBI seeks transfer of Sohrabuddin case out of Gujarat Posted: 30 Jul 2010 10:09 PM PDT By IANS, New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Friday asked the Supreme Court to transfer the trial in Sohrabuddin Sheikh-Kausarbi killings case outside Gujarat. The investigating agency, which was asked to investigate the fake encounter case by the apex court, also prayed for the transfer of the accused outside the state to Mumbai. The CBI submitted it report to the Supreme Court's registry and its plea is likely to come up for hearing next week. The investigating agency has sought three months more time to carry out its investigation.

| 3 Died: Kashmir Friday ends with clashes, killings Posted: 30 Jul 2010 12:07 PM PDT By Sheikh Imran Bashir, Agence India Press Srinagar: Whereas the death toll in Kashmir stuck over two dozen people from past few weeks, the Friday witnessed another jolt after three more were killed by police and paramilitary troops in many parts of the valley. Paramilitary forces fired on hundreds of protesters in Kashmir valley on Friday, killing three men and wounding at least 70 others. Troops fired on protesters chanting pro-freedom slogans in Pattan and Sopore towns, both northwest of Kashmir.
