Batla probe: NHRC admits it relied on official reports, didn’t visit spot

New Delhi: About one year after it gave clean chit to Delhi Police in Batla House encounter case, the National Human Rights Commission has admitted it relied on the official documents provided to it by concerned department, and it did not send its probe team to the Batla House area as part of its enquiry into the September 2008 encounter.

Malayalam director Shaji to make documentary on M.F. Husain

Thiruvananthapuram : Veteran film director Shaji N. Karun is set to make a full length documentary on master painter M.F. Husain.

Speaking to IANS, Shaji as he is popularly known, said that he has spoken to the 94-year-old legendary artist, who has agreed for it.

"The documentary would begin in October and is slated for release next year. We are soon going to meet. More details can be revealed after we meet," said Shaji.

Six names including Ma'dani's were added to the additional chargesheet submitted on Friday. Ma'dani is reported to have inspired and helped in the crime.

Restrictions in Srinagar over youth's death again

Srinagar : Strict restrictions were imposed in the old city areas of Srinagar for the second consecutive day Sunday, a day after clashes broke out over a teenager's death during street protests.

Restrictions were imposed in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, S.R. Gunj and Safa Kadal police stations to prevent violence.

As many as 45 people, including 15 policemen, were injured in daylong clashes Saturday as angry mobs pelted stones at police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers.

'Slumdog...' star Azharuddin to tell his story in English

Pune : Azharuddin Mohammed Shaikh, 12, who became a household name after the success of "Slumdog Millionaire", is all set to tell his story to the English reading public with the translation of his autobiography "Slumboy", which was penned jointly with a French journalist.

"Work on the translation of 'Slumboy', co-authored with Mouhssine Ennaimi, is under way. We plan to release it around Diwali," Sunil Mehta, proprietor of the Pune-based Mehta Publishing House, told IANS here.

Kerala leader chargesheeted for 2008 Bangalore blasts

Bangalore : Peoples Democratic Party chief Abdul Nasser Maudany has been chargesheeted along with 31 others for involvement in the 2008 serial blasts in Bangalore that left a woman dead and 20 others injured, police said Saturday.

The Kerala-based Maudany was among the six people named in the additional chargesheet filed by the Bangalore Police Friday in a magistrate's court here. Police had earlier chargesheeted 26 people.

"We have enough evidence to name Maudany an accused in the case," Joint Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar told reporters here.

Srinagar : Over three dozen people, including six policemen, were injured in day-long clashes in this Jammu and Kashmir summer capital Saturday following the death of a teenager they alleged was killed in a street protest a day earlier.

Five children killed Maharashtra madrasa roof collapse

Aurangabad (Maharashtra): Five children were crushed to death and at least eight others were injured when the roof of a madrasa caved in due to heavy rains in Maharashtra's Aurangabad district Saturday evening, police said.

"The children were in classes at the Arbi madrassa in Mhasa village when the roof suddenly collapsed around 5.30 p.m. owing to the heavy rains," investigating officer of Gangapur police station D.D. Konde told IANS.

The eight injured children have been rushed to hospitals in Aurangabad and Gangapur, around 60 km from the district headquarters.
