'Catholic priests, Muslim groups pushing extremism in Kerala'

New Delhi : Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan Friday said Catholic priests and Muslim political leaders are spreading "minority extermism" in the state and practising "vote bank politics".

Balakrishnan said a section of Catholic priests made efforts to ensure the merger of Kerala Congress-Mani (KC-M) and Kerala Congress-Joseph (KC-J) last month.

Muslim groups protest Israeli assault on Gaza aid ship

New Delhi : Representatives from several Muslim organisations Friday staged a protest march in the capital against Israel's assault May 30 on an aid ship en route to Gaza, leading to the death of nine activists, and demanded India snap all ties with the country.

Nearly 1,000 people joined the march that started from India Gate and headed towards the Israeli embassy. The protesters were, however, stopped at Shahjahan road by police.

5 Muslims clear Combined Defence Services exam

New Delhi: The final result of the Combined Defence Services examination (ii), 2009 was announced today. There are only 5 Muslims among 383 candidates who have qualified for admission to the 129th Course of Indian Military Academy (Dehradun), Naval Academy (Kerala) and Air Force Academy (Hyderabad) (Pre-Flying) Training Course i.e. 188th F(P) Course.

All five Muslims have qualified for admission to Indian Military Academy (Dehradun). One of them has also qualified for Naval Academy (Ezhimala, Kerala).

New Delhi: Indian Mujahideen, a shadowy terror group as its headquarters or offices are yet to be found, has been declared a terrorist organization by the Government of India. According to a Central Government release, government has issued an order adding Indian Mujahideen, all its formations and front organizations to the list of terror groups.

Patna: First time in last 58 years in Independent India, a Muslim has been elected as Mayor of Bihar's capital Patna. Afzal Imam won the mayoral election held yesterday for mayor and deputy mayor under the supervision of the District Magistrate. Imam secured 43 votes while his opponent and former mayor Sanjay Kumar just 19 votes.

Head-scarf row again in Kerala: DDE to probe

Thiruvananthapuram: Before the heat of the head-scarf row in Alappuzha subsides, a school in the state capital has reportedly barred its Muslim students from wearing a head-scarf. The state Director of Public Instruction APM Haneesh has directed the DDE of Thiruvananthapuram district to probe into the issue and submit a report immediately. The parents of the students who were forced to take off their head-scarves had approached the DPI with a complaint. The DPI would take necessary measures on the matter after getting the report.
