Voluntary mischief against Muslim

Recently, the central government has raised the morale of the controversial Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen, by extending the validity period of her visa and by delivering positive signals for having consideration over her request for providing her permanent residence in India. The situation which arose in the two cities of Karnataka state i.e. Shimoga and Hassan are the consequence of the same.

Indian government had extended the Visa period of Taslima Nasreen, with an aim to hurt the religious sentiments of Indian Muslim. Further damage was made when a daily of Karnataka state had published abusive article to incite the religious sentiments of Muslim, and to insult the holy prophet Muhammad (SAW). The Muslim community of Shimoga and Hassan has protested the publishing of the article which contained illogical ideologies of Taslima Nasreen regarding Purda (the veil), and abusive words regarding the holy prophet Muhammad (SAW), in the Kannada newspaper. The local police had twisted the protest into violence by firing in which several people were injured along with two deaths. Police is being held responsible for causing two deaths. To bring the situation under control, the police clearly made wrong use of its power and acted one-sidedly. It is also reported that to twist the protest into violence, the activists of Shri Ram Sena had meddled to incite the protesters by coming on the road. Neither, the police nor the state government had taken any action against the Shri Ram Sena activists. Since the Saffron party has come to the power in Karnataka, there has been an increase in the anti-Muslim activities of Shri Ran Sena in the state, particularly in the towns adjacent to Bangalore. The publishing of the abusing articles by the local Kannada daily is being considered as an attempt to provoke the community by hurting the religious sentiments of the community. Taslima Nasreen has made the expression of abusive ideologies against Islam and Purda (veil) as the sole purpose of her life, which is obviously contrary to the law and the traditions of the country. So the government of India should take immediate action by revoking the extended period of her visa.

While regretting over the situation at Hassan and Shimoga, the Karnataka government has condemned the acts of hurting the religious sentiments. Although police has registered an FIR against the Kannada daily for publishing the article, however, it had not taken any action against Taslima Nasreen, who is the real abuser.

Residing of Taslima Nasreen in India is very mush depressing for Indian Muslims. By extending its visa period, from time to time, the government is injuring the sentiments of the community. The situation of the two cities of Karnataka shows that the attempt of inciting the sentiments of Muslim community was deliberately made. Chief Minister of Karnataka Mr. Yedyuruppa has assured of action against the daily for publishing the article. He also has said that his government will not tolerate the publishing of articles against any religion.

However, the government had not delivered any order to investigate against the police which had subjugated the protesters and the activists of Shri Ram Sena, which came upon Muslims. It is the responsibility of the government to trace out the people who were behind twisting the peaceful protest into violence, as the possibility of the involvement of some of the miscreant groups of the Saffron party can't be ruled out.

The article was published with an aim to worsen the situation in the state, which is a serious offence for disrupting the peace. Hence both the state and central government has to ban books containing abusive materials and must immediately oust the controversial author from the country. Whether it is the publishing of the offensive cartoons of the Holy Prophet (SAW) or publishing such abusive articles, these seriously seem to be a great conspiracy of anti- Islamic forces, particularly that of media. The real reason of these attempts is to incite the community and later arrest them and harass them. This will later cause further outrage and anger among the Muslim. In Karnataka, incidents of hurting religious sentiments and publishing seems to be part of the sequence of there attempts against Muslim, so that Muslim get incited and come out on the road to protest against it, and they become victims of police bullets and lathis.

It may be noted that the Kannada daily had published the articles at a time when the community was celebrating the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The situation will worsen if the anti-Muslim forces were allowed to hurt the sentiments of the community and they are let to perform their unholy goals.
