The proposed bill is likely to be presented in Parliament for passage on March 8, 2010, which is also 100th Anniversary International Women Day. The Union Cabinet has already given its nod. |
Court admits plea to transfer Gulbarg massacre case Posted: 05 Mar 2010 07:26 AM PST By IANS, Gandhinagar : The Gujarat High Court Friday admitted a petition seeking transfer of the Gulbarg Society massacre case of the 2002 communal riots from the court of Judge B.U. Joshi. Justice Anant Dave admitted the petition filed by eyewitnesses of the massacre who alleged bias and unprofessional conduct by Special Court Judge B.U. Joshi and sought the hearing of the case to be transferred from his court. The case is now posted for March 15. |

India rules out Islamic banking for the moment Posted: 05 Mar 2010 05:59 AM PST By IANS, New Delhi : India Friday ruled out introducing Islamic banking in the country for the moment, making the wait longer for interest-free access to finance under the principles of Sharia. The introduction of Islamic banking was recommended by a committee on financial sector reforms, set up by the Planning Commission, for delivery of interest-free finance on a larger scale, even through the banking system. However, the government decided not to go ahead with the recommendations, and said it was not feasible to introduce the new system in the current scheme of things. |
More than 4.5 lakh educated youths are unemployed in JK Posted: 05 Mar 2010 05:07 AM PST By Agence India Press, Jammu: As many as more than four lakh educated youth in Jammu and Kashmir are unemployed and have registered themselves with various counseling centres in the state, officials said. "There are 4,66,770 educated unemployed youth registered with various District Employment and Counseling Centres (DECC) in the state," Labour and Employment department officials has said. Out of these, the Kashmir division has registered 2,51,048 unemployed youth and Jammu division has 2,15,722, they said. |

Plea for voice test in 2002 Gujarat riot case rejected Posted: 04 Mar 2010 10:22 PM PST By IANS, Ahmedabad : A court hearing the Naroda Gam case of the 2002 Gujarat riots has rejected the Special Investigation Team's (SIT) plea to conduct voice tests on VHP activists Babu Bajrangi and Jaideep Patel. Eleven people were killed in Naroda Gam. The SIT had wanted to cross-check claims of complicity of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders in the riots. The claims were made in a sting operation by a magazine in 2007. |

Responding to a joint resolution of Javed Mustafa Mir and Nizam-ud-Din Bhat of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which called for the reduction of the security forces and repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ministerr Ali Mohammad Sagar said the situation in the state needed to improve before these steps could be taken. |
