Muslim leaders wish quota, but shy away from launching movement Posted: 30 Mar 2010 10:59 AM PDT By Mumtaz Alam Falahi, TwoCircles.net, New Delhi: Muslim community leaders, it seems, have lost confidence in them or lack courage – maybe even potential – to launch a mass movement democratically to press the authorities for their genuine demands -- whether it is Muslim reservation or judicial probe of Batla House encounter. Like many times in the recent past, today they again demanded reservation in job and education but clearly lacked courage when repeatedly asked if they would launch a mass movement in case government did not listen. |
Toll in Hyderabad rises to two, curfew in more areas Posted: 30 Mar 2010 10:44 AM PDT By IANS, Hyderabad: One more person was stabbed to death in Hyderabad Tuesday, taking the toll in the communal violence to two while riots spread to new areas and curfew was imposed in the limits of eight more police stations. While curfew continued the old city without any relaxation, it was imposed in new areas following fresh clashes. Hyderabad police Commissioner A.K. Khan said Tuesday evening that indefinite curfew would be in force in Afzalgunz, Begumbazar, Shahinathgunz, Tappachaputra, Asifnagar, Mangalhat, Kulsumpura and Habibnagar police stations. |

The program began with recitation of Holy Quran and then Vice Chancellor opened the convocation saying Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Raheem – the Muslim traditions. A day after her family confirmed the marriage with Malik, she said they would settle in Dubai after the marriage and would continue to represent their respective countries in their games. "We are getting married. We are not making any political statement. It is simple," she said when asked if the marriage would help improve India-Pakistan relations. |

"The BJP is projecting it (Modi's appearance before SIT) as if it is a favour to the judicial system. If Dawood Ibrahim is brought before the law, will he be doing a favour?" They were protesting against any such campus in the state. The state government, of which BJP is partner, has allocated 250 acres of land for the campus in the Muslim dominated eastern Bihar district. |

The university has not disclosed the details about the incidents, nor the identity of the guilty students or victims. The university authorities had received complaints of incidents of sexual harassment inside the campus. The university has also imposed campus ban on the guilty students. |

1996 bomb blast verdict deferred till April 8 Posted: 30 Mar 2010 12:20 AM PDT By IANS, New Delhi : A city court deferred till April 8 its verdict in the 1996 bomb blast that took place in Lajpat Nagar here, killing 13 people. Khalil Ansari, counsel for the 10 accused hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, said as the decision on the final judgment was not completed, the date for its final verdict has been extended further. The matter has been in Judge S.P. Garg's court. Ending the final arguments March 17, the judge fixed the date for the verdict as March 30, which has been extended now. |
Sporadic incidents in Hyderabad's curfew-bound areas Posted: 29 Mar 2010 10:20 PM PDT By IANS, Hyderabad : The situation in riot-hit old city of Hyderabad Tuesday remained peaceful barring minor incidents of violence even as an indefinite curfew continued, police said. Over a hundred people have so far been arrested in connection with various incidents since the tension started. Sporadic incidents of stone-pelting were reported from curfew-bound areas of Gulzar Houz and Shahali Banda near historic Charminar but the police controlled the situation by resorting to baton-charge and arresting the miscreants. |
