Woman's womb was not slit during 2002 riots: Doctor Posted: 17 Mar 2010 09:56 AM PDT By IANS, Ahmedabad: The horror tale of a pregnant woman having her womb slit open by attackers of the 2002 communal riots during the Naroda Patia massacre in Ahmedabad has been negated by a doctor who carried out the autopsy. J.S. Kanoria during his cross-examination before special court judge Jyotsnaben Yagnik Wednesday said he had conducted the post-mortem examination on three bodies, including the pregnant woman, Kausarbanu Sheikh, and had found the foetus intact in her womb. |

Interestingly, the CIC had taken more than one year against the provision of 90 days – to call the hearing on the second appeal of the RTI petitioner. |

Jammu lawyers protest bill to strip women of property rights Posted: 17 Mar 2010 07:58 AM PDT By IANS, Jammu: About 100 lawyers were arrested here Wednesday when they tried to lay a siege around the state assembly to oppose a bill moved last week in the upper house that seeks to deprive women of their permanent resident rights if they marry outside Jammu and Kashmir. More than 150 lawyers of the Jammu Bar Association marched from the high court complex to the civil secretariat where they were intercepted by police. |

Arif Khan, Indian envoy in Rome, dead Posted: 17 Mar 2010 03:59 AM PDT By IANS, New Delhi : Arif Khan, India's ambassador in Italy, died in Rome Tuesday, officials said. He was 58. Khan, who was suffering from lung cancer, is survived by his wife Farida and two sons. He had served earlier as India's ambassador in Syria, deputy chief of mission in Paris and as the official spokesman of the external affairs ministry. Before he went to Rome, he was additional secretary (public diplomacy). The Indian Foreign Service (IFS) is meeting at 5 p.m. this evening to mourn his death. |

It was the third relaxation since curfew was imposed two weeks ago. "As peaceful situation prevails in Bareilly, we have decided to relax the curfew for 11 hours," Deputy Inspector General of Police (Bareilly Range) Rajiv Sabharwal told IANS. "It was relaxed for eight hours Tuesday. Now, the relaxation has been extended to 5 p.m.," he said. |

Minister of Minority Affairs Salman Khurshid gave this information to Rajya Sabha today. This is the number of complaints received in the current financial year till February 25th. Complaints are on law & order, economic mattes, cultural rights, religion based harassment, waqf matters, and compensation for the victims of the riots. |
