Modi returns for SIT questioning Posted: 27 Mar 2010 10:40 AM PDT By IANS, Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi returned Saturday night, after a four-hour break, for a second session of questioning by Supreme Court-appointed panel over his alleged complicity in not doing enough to stop the 2002 riots in the state. The chief minister entered the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headquarters in the old secretariat premises at the appointed time of 9 p.m. after his security had completed the sanitizing of the area. Except media persons and security personnel, no one else was permitted inside the premises. |

The CIC passed the order on an RTI application that had sought information about the Delhi blasts accused who have been arrested besides copy of post-mortem and FIR in the Batla House encounter case. |
Former Congress MP's widow satisfied at Modi's questioning Posted: 27 Mar 2010 09:43 AM PDT By IANS, Gandhinagar: Zakia Jaffri, widow of former Congress MP Ehsan Jaffri killed during the 2002 communal riots, Saturday expressed satisfaction at the fact that Chief Minister Narendra Modi appeared before the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT). "It has taken eight long years but at least he has come. Now that he has played his cards, our lawyers will take it up from here on and we hope some justice will be done," she said. Leader of Opposition in the assembly Shaktisinh Gohil said that Modi was left with no option but to appear before the SIT. |

Modi chose to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) without a lawyer but took a four-hour long break in between to consult Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley, a Supreme Court advocate, who is also leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha, party sources told IANS. |

Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone promised to take up the matter with the government. "This is sheer vindictiveness," PDP leader and former home minister Abdul Rehman Veeri said. He referred to the case of Mohi-ud-Din, who represented Rajpora constituency in south Kashmir's Pulwama district. |
Kashmir hires consultancy firm to boost tourism Posted: 27 Mar 2010 07:28 AM PDT By IANS, Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has engaged a consultancy firm to identify tourism potential areas and suggest measures for their development. Announcing this in the assembly Saturday, Minister for Tourism Rigzin Jora claimed that the "agency was of international repute". He did not name the agency. "The consultancy would conduct a comprehensive survey in all three regions -- the Kashmir Valley, Ladakh and Jammu -- and suggest measures to harness the tourism potential more optimally. We want to tap all these areas," the minister said. |

Modi reached the SIT office at noon. This is the first time Modi is being interrogated in a riot case. An official spokesman said Modi's decision to submit himself for questioning was no setback for the state government. "What setback?" asked spokesman Jai Narayan Vyas. |
