UP govt. sanctions just 1% of the funds required

Lucknow: The Urdu Arabic-Persian university announced amidst much fanfare in 2009 by the state government is reeling under acute financial crisis. The Vice-Chancellor (V-C) of the proposed university who demanded Rs 150 crore from the state government only to be contented with Rs 1.51 crores.

The building of the proposed university is still under construction however, Ansari stated on Thursday to start few courses on a token basis form July 2011.

Three members of a family in critical condition following Kashmir clashes

Srinagar: At least ten persons sustained bullet injuries when a joint party of police and CRPF troopers opened fire on demonstrators at Soura on city outskirts here on Thursday.

The three members of a family were injured critically when security forces opened fire to disperse demonstrators demanding the withdrawal of the CRPF troops from the premises of a Jenab shrine in Srinagar.

HWF to give Ramazan kits to 3000 poor families

New Delhi: The Human Welfare Foundation, the social service wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has started distribution of Iftar kit to more than 3,000 poor Muslim families in states like Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Haryana and Delhi.

Each kit will carry ingredients enough for an average family for the whole month of Ramazan.

Maudany being questioned; PDP requests state and centre to save his life

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Central Crime Branch yesterday began questioning PDP chairman Abdunnasir Maudany in connection with the Bengaluru blast case. Meanwhile, the PDP has requested the state and central governments to intervene to save the life of Maudany. Maudany was arrested by the Bengaluru police from Anvarssery in Kollam on Tuesday when he was going to surrender in court.

No intention to ban Union Carbide: Govt

New Delhi: There is no proposal to blacklist and ban the entry of Union Carbide which is now called Dow Chemicals in the country. Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Srikant Kumar Jena gave this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.

He said no such proposal is under the consideration of the department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals.

Kashmiri students divided on 'azadi'

New Delhi : Even as Kashmir Valley continues to see protests and cries for "azadi", a group of 60 Kashmiri students who visited Delhi were clearly divided on the issue of freedom, with some saying that youths were being brainwashed and others rooting for a plebiscite.

"Some of the youth are being brainwashed by anti-national elements. The majority of the stone-pelters get money in return. Kashmir is and will remain an integral part of India," said Sajad Yousuf, a student of Kashmir University.

205 fresh dengue cases reported from Jamia Nagar, hospitals ‘full’

New Delhi: Number of suspected dengue cases in Jamia Nagar has increased substantially. Only in the last 24 hours out of 595 suspected patients who approached the five big hospitals in the area, 205 turned out to be dengue patients. Out of 205 cases, the condition of 12 patients is reportedly very serious.

Municipal Corporation of Delhi, on the other hand has declared 297 dengue cases till now in Delhi. It has also accepted that a large of this figure, have been reported from Jamia Nagar, a Muslim dominated area.

Mayor faces the heat of angry Jamia Nagar residents over dengue cases

New Delhi: PR Sawheney, mayor of Municipal Corporation of Delhi, had to face the heat of angry residents of Jamia Nagar, when he visited Jamia Nagar on Wednesday, 18th August, so much so that he had to leave the area within 15 minutes.

The local residents protested against the MCD and the mayor, asking him why he bothered to visit the area at all, when the situation of dengue in the area has turned worst.

He was there to take stock of the situation in the backdrop of increasing dengue cases being reported from the area.

Holiest Kashmir Shrine closed for prayers in Ramzan

Srinagar, India : Holiest Islamic shrine in Kashmir remained shut for fifth consecutive day Wednesday and no prayers could be offered there despite this being holy month of Ramadan.

Residents are protesting the desecration of the shrine by local policemen and demand their removal before prayers can be resumed.

They are also demanding shifting of the police barracks from the shrine premises and ritual ablution of the holy place as is customary in Kashmir after every such incident.

If we take a look at this law, it clears central government's intention in educating every child whether he is from tribal caste or from minority communities. Boy dies in Kashmir, toll rises to 60

Srinagar : An eight-year-old boy, hit by a stray bullet during clashes between security forces and protesters, died here Thursday, taking the toll in the Kashmir Valley unrest since June 11 to 60.

Milat Ahmad Dar was injured Saturday in Harnagh village of Anantnag district. He was playing with his friends when a bullet fired some distance away hit him.

"The boy was not part of any mob. He had come to his mother's ancestral village from Wanpora village in Kulgam district when destiny cut short his life," said a sobbing villager who did not wanted to be named.

Chennai: Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam president, Prof Jawahirullah condemned the arrest of Kerala's People Democratic Party (PDP) leader and religious scholar Abdun Nasar Maudany. Maudany was arrested by Karnataka police in Kerala on 17 August in connection with the 2008 Bangalore blast.

Prof Jawahirullah said that the arrest of Maudany was nothing but a political conspiracy and a wreak by the vested interests. He equally denounced the Left led Kerala Government which, he said, "made the arrest easier."

Omar hits out at woman separatist leader

Jammu : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Wednesday lashed out at separatist leader Syeda Asiya Andrabi for trying to send her son abroad for studies while asking students in the valley to "sacrifice their studies for liberation of Kashmir".

Andrabi, the Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief whose son had applied for a passport to study in Malaysia, has been saying that the youth in the valley should give up their studies and make "sacrifices for the movement for liberation of Kashmir".

Abdullah accused the leader of "saying one thing and practising quite the other".

Omar favours repeal of armed forces' special powers

Jammu : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Wednesday said he favoured the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act -- that gives legal immunity to security forces for causing collateral damage, including deaths, during operations -- at a later stage.

He said that "there was no question of its (act's) revocation at this point in time."

This is for the first time that Omar has made a categorical statement on the issue that has rankled many in the state.
