Srinagar: Marking off Tuesday as "purchase day," the Hurriyat (G) today issued a new "Quit Kashmir" movement calendar for the coming week featuring March to Maisuma on Friday 30 July 2010, and massive 12-hour street sit-in protest on Wednesday and Thursday.

In the new programme, Tuesday has been off in protests and their will be no protest or strike on Tuesday 27th July 2010, and Monday 26 July 2010 will be complete strike.

Omar seeks 30,000 new Kashmiri cops to replace CRPF

New Delhi : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Saturday called for induction of 30,000 Kashmiri men and women into the state police to enable them to progressively take over law and order responsibilities from the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force.

Unemployment was the biggest problem facing the state with 5.9 lakh youth registered at the state's district employment centres, Abdullah said in his address at the National Development Council meeting here.

Mumbai : In a security lapse that has unnerved officials, mafia don Abu Salem was attacked Saturday with a sharp instrument inside the Arthur Road Central Jail, allegedly by Mohammed Dossa, a member of absconding mafia don Dawood Ibrahim's gang.

Following a scuffle that broke out between them inside the jail premises, Dossa attacked Salem with a sharpened spoon during breakfast time this morning, injuring Salem in the face and neck.

Two days back I went through a report in BBC website under the title "India state-run banks 'turn away Muslims'" regarding denial of access to government banks to Muslims in India. The report reveals the truth of the government banks operating in different parts of the country.

The report quotes the National Commission of Minorities as saying that there has been a 100% increase in the number of complaints it has received over the past year from Muslims who say they are being prevented from opening accounts in state-run banks.

New Delhi: The Communist Party of India-Marxist Friday demanded the tabling of the Women's Reservation Bill in the monsoon session of the Lok Sabha beginning Monday.

"There should not be further delay. The Women's Bill should be tabled in the Lok Sabha with the support of all the parties, which backed the Bill in the Rajya Sabha," CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat told reporters here .

The Women's Bill, which seeks to reserve one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies for women, was passed by the Rajya Sabha March 9.

Srinagar: Authorities on Friday imposed curfew in this north Kashmir town to prevent people from coming out and staging demonstrations.

Hundreds of policemen and paramilitary CRPF troopers were deployed in strength in every nook and corner of the town and people were not allowed to come out of their homes.

Reports said that authorities also imposed curfew in frontier district of Kupwara and prevented people from marching towards Khanqah-E-Moula, the call for which was given by the Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
