British minister terms burqa ban un-British

London: Banning the burqa, the Islamic full-body veil for women, will be "un-British" and contrary to a "tolerant and mutually respectful society", Britain's Immigration Minister Damian Green has said.

According to The Sunday Telegraph, Green said it would be "undesirable" for the British parliament to vote on a burqa ban and that there was no prospect of the ruling coalition government led by Prime Minister David Cameron proposing it.

Bal Thackeray wants Antulay to fight Maharashtra's case

Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has urged former Maharashtra chief minister and union minister A. R. Antulay to provide his legal expertise and knowledge in the vexed Maharashtra-Karnataka boundary issue, currently being heard in the Supreme Court, a party leader said.

Thackeray specially invited Antulay to his bungalow, 'Matoshri' in Bandra, late Saturday night and requested him to use his legal acumen and his long political and administrative experience to help strengthen Maharashtra's case in the Supreme Court, Sena MP Sanjay Raut told IANS.

Separatist shutdown, restrictions cripple Srinagar again

Srinagar : A shutdown called by separatists and restrictions imposed by authorities paralysed life in Srinagar Sunday, just a day after a semblance of normalcy was restored after days of strikes and curfew. North Kashmir's Baramulla town, meanwhile, was tense after a boy allegedly drowned there after being chased by security forces.

The hardline separatist Hurriyat group headed by Syed Ali Geelani has called for a Valley-wide shutdown Sunday to protest alleged human rights violations by the security forces in Kashmir.
