Government to hold talks with Kashmiri groups

New Delhi: In a bid to defuse the volatile situation in the Kashmir Valley, the central government plans to soon hold talks with leaders of various political parties and separatist groups, official sources said here Wednesday.

"While the plan for the talks have been accepted in principle, the details are yet to be finalised," an official source told IANS.

"There are even suggestions that the talks be in (Kashmir's summer capital) Srinagar."

Strike continues, life remains disrupted in Kashmir

Srinagar: Life continued to remain disrupted in the Valley due to the week-long shutdown called by the Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, authorities have imposed curfew and restrictions across Srinagar, Sopore and Baramulla on Wednesday.
There was no restriction on the movement of people in civil line areas but prohibitory orders were strictly being enforced in old city areas falling under police stations of Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Lal Bazar, Maharajgunj, Safakadal, Maisuma, Bemina and Parimpora.

Srinagar: Farooq Abdullah Wednesday said he had no plans of stepping down as president of the National Conference (NC), putting to rest speculations that he may pave the way for a younger leader.

"I have no intention of stepping down from the NC president's post. Yes, I am getting old and the party would find a new president when the times come for that. As of now, I shall not be stepping down from the post," Abdullah said in an interview here to radio Kashmir.

Dr Ausaf Sayeed appointed India’s envoy to Yemen

New Delhi: Serving seasoned Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Dr Ausaf Sayeed has been appointed as India's new envoy to Yemen. The 1989-batch officer, currently serving as joint secretary for West African affairs in the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, is likely to assume office in mid-September.

A one line statement of External Affairs Ministry on July 19 says Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, presently Joint Secretary at the ministry head office in Delhi, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Yemen.

Srinagar: A curfew was strictly imposed since morning in Baramulla district, 65 km north of Srinagar, and Sopore, 55 km north of Srinagar, as the authorities feared protests in these areas. Despite curfew, there were reports of massive protests in the town against the death of two youth from the area one, Faizan Ahmad, died after he drowned into a river in a police chase two days ago and 23-year-old Fayaz Ahmad Khanday fell to bullets fired on the funeral of Faizan.

It's hard for him to meet both ends, and thus he was forced to come to streets. New Google Maps launched – Shows Kashmir as Disputed

Srinagar: Google just announced their New version of Google Map & Earth, which is aimed at providing accurate boundaries and geopolitical features of the country. Google had earlier come under fire for not showing the International boundaries; especially the one's which are under dispute.

They now seem to have taken a safer route by showing regions under dispute separately, which is not part of both the sides. Like in case of India, Google maps has shown entire region of Kashmir & Arunachal Pradesh to be disputed.

Ma’dani: Non-bailable warrant extended to August 3

The warrant in connection with the Bengaluru blast case was extended twice earlier since being first issued on June 15. Attack on professor: Human Rights Commission intervenes on alleged torture of Muslims

Kochi: The National Human Rights Commission is turning its attention to Kerala on the complaint that Muslim families are being tortured in the name of the investigation on the attack on professor, according to reports. The Commission has reportedly asked the state DGP to give an explanation on the matter within two weeks.
