Shutdown hits Kashmir Valley, Srinagar tense

Srinagar: The Kashmir Valley shut down Wednesday in response to a call by separatists while curfew-like restrictions imposed by authorities in several areas hit life in Srinagar. A few incidents of stone-pelting were reported.

Youth pelted stones at private vehicles in Chanapora and Harwan areas of Srinagar, forcing them to go off the roads in view of the separatist-sponsored shutdown.

Ishrat's mother seeks CBI probe into killing

Gandhinagar: Shamima Kauser, mother of Ishrat Jahan who was killed in an alleged staged shootout by the Gujarat Police in 2004, said in the Gujarat High Court Wednesday that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should probe the incident.

Arguing the case before a division bench comprising Justice Jayant Patel and Justice Abhilasha Kumari, counsel for Kauser, I.H. Saiyed, said there was a question mark over the investigation of the case by the state police.

Kashmir unrest is India's internal matter: Krishna

Islamabad: Violence in Jammu and Kashmir that has left 15 people dead is "an internal matter of India", External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna said here Wednesday.

The minister was asked to comment on his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi's reported comment to take up the issue of alleged human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir during talks with Krishna Thursday.

"India has always taken a consistent position. Whatever is happening in Kashmir is an internal matter of India," he said.

Patna: He belongs to Minority Concentration District of Bahraich in UP which is among low literate districts in the country. Muslims are more backward here compared to others; especially Muslim women are worse in education than Dalit women. But this did not come in the way of Mr. Azim Khan of the district. He got higher education both in India and abroad, and now has come back to his home district to make it more literate.

Jamia extends postgraduate admission date

New Delhi : The Jamia Millia Islamia University has extended the last date of completing admission formalities to postgraduate courses till July 19, a statement said Wednesday.

The last dates have been extended for postgraduate courses offered by the Faculties of Social Sciences, Humanities and Languages, Natural Sciences, Law and M.Sc. Electronics.

The final list of candidates selected from the waiting list will be announced July 22 and the students will have to complete the admission formalities by July 23.

Widespread raid in PFI offices; police spreading terror, says PFI

Kozhikode: The police yesterday conducted widespread raids in the offices of the Popular Front of India and the Social Democratic Party of India in Kerala. The raids were conducted following the discovery of several bombs and other weapons in Kannur district last day. The PFI state president Nasarudheen Elamaram stated that the organisation would go for a state-wide agitation against the move to create terror in the state in the name of a local incident.

NREGA: Bihar spends Rs 35 lac on ad, training in one district
