Millat College of Darbhanga: Movement launched for minority status

Patna: Far from AMU and Jamia Millia Islamia, the Muslim community in the North Bihar district of Darbhanga has launched a movement for restoration of minority character of the prestigious Millat College, first college established post-Independence by Muslims in Bihar. Set up in 1957, the college was run by Muslim Anjuman-e-Taleem, founding society of the college, till 1976 when the government took it over and diminished its minority status.

New Delhi: Human rights activists and civil society groups have contested Gujarat Police and Delhi Police's claim, that Abdul Shakeel Basha, who was arrested on June 18 in New Delhi, is a suspected Maoist.

In a statement released on 23rd June 2010, civil society activists, like Shabnam Hashmi, Rajinder Sachar and Indu Prakash, regarded his arrest as a part of latest "witch-hunt" unleashed on rights activists by the government misusing the "draconian provisions" of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 2004.

Curfew imposed in Kupwara, lifted in Sopore

Srinagar: Curfew was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir's border district of Kupwara Saturday, a day after clashes between protesters and security personnel, while it was lifted in Sopore town, which saw violent protests in the past week.

The Kupwara district magistrate imposed curfew in the border town and the adjacent areas of Trehgam, Lonehari and Kralpora, an official spokesman said.

Thousands of protesters clashed with police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in the town after Friday prayers.

Rahmani Foundation declares entrance test result for Chartered Accountancy

Patna: Rahmani Foundation Munger has today announced the result of entrance test for Chartered Accountant (CA) course. The course will be run by Rahmani Foundation in association with Ummul Qura Foundation, Pune. In total, 107 candidates have been declared successful.

The course has been launched by Rahmani Foundation to train meritorious Muslim students for Chartered Accountancy.

Total of 648 students took part in the test held on 27th June 2010 at several places in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. Of them, 107 have been selected for interview.

The credibility of the 'renowned terror expert' of The Hindu, Praveen Swami, has now come down to near-zero, risking the credibility of the paper itself.
