98% Kashmiris do not want to join Pakistan

Srinagar: Only 2% of residents of Kashmir want to join Pakistan while less than half of them favor independence as a solution to the unrest in the region, an independent survey conducted by British academic Robert Bradnock said. The survey found 44% of people in Pakistan side Kashmir and 43% in the Indian side favoring independence.

Titled "Kashmir: Paths to Peace", the survey is seen as a rare attempt to assess the opinions of people on both sides of the Line of Control (LOC) – the de facto border that splits the region between the two countries.

3 impersonators caught at Jamia Millia B.Tech. entrance test

New Delhi: Three boys were caught today while impersonating at Jamia Millia Islamia entrance test for B.Tech. This year Jamia introduced mandatory photographing of candidates at the test centres prior to being allowed to enter the examination hall. The impersonators will be handed over to the police.

Islam not against progress of women: Er Mohd Salim

Jaipur: Islam does not restrict women from progress, nor education or business. Islam just expects them to do all these things while remaining within the Islamic parameters, said Engineer Muhammad Salim, Rajasthan state president of Jamaat Islami. He was addressing a conference on "Be protector of women's dignity" here last week.

"The wealth earned by women is theirs. They are owner of moveable or immovable property or wealth that they inherit," Er Salim further said.

AMU to hold national consultation on upcoming special centres

Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University will hold a National Consultation on vision and mission for AMU special centres on May 30, 2010 at India International Centre, New Delhi. The invitees include Muslim vice-chancellors from across the country and prominent alumni from home and abroad.

AMU Vice Chancellor Professor P. K. Abdul Azis said that more than hundred delegates from all parts of India and abroad will participate in the consultation.

Indian Centre for Islamic Finance launches its website

New Delhi: The website of the Delhi-based Indian Centre for Islamic Finance (ICIF) was yesterday launched by noted Islamic economist Dr. Fazlur Rahman Faridi. Dr Faridi, who is also Chairman of ICIF, appreciated the work done on the website and hoped people in India and abroad will utilize this facility.

He further said that the website will create awareness among the students, scholars and the regulators about the need and relevance of Islamic finance, which has emerged as a possible alternative after the financial Tsunami in the west.
