Sometimes when one divides something one actually multiplies it.
So when the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led National Democratic Alliance government, in November 2000, divided Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh to create Uttaranchal (now Uttarakhand), Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, it actually multiplied the number from three to six. And the number of states in India jumped from 25 to 28.

Women's quota bill unlikely in Lok Sabha this session

New Delhi:The government is unlikely to move the women's reservation bill in the Lok Sabha during the few remaining days of the budget session before parliament goes into recess around May 7, Congress sources said.

They said the government had told political parties during its consultation with them on the bill last month that it would conduct another round of talks before moving the draft loegislation.

Ajmer bombing mastermind may be in Gujarat: Police

Jaipur : An Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Rajasthan Police has been sent to Gujarat to track down the mastermind of the 2007 Ajmer Dargah Sharif bombing, police sources said here Sunday.

According to ATS sources, interrogation of Devendra Gupta, the first suspect to be arrested for the blast, revealed that the mastermind was based in Gujarat.

"After interrogating Devendra Gupta, we have strong reasons to believe that the mastermind of the blast lives in Gujarat. Gupta has revealed his name too," an ATS official said.

Third suspect held for Ajmer Dargah bombing

Jaipur : A third man suspected to be involved in the 2007 bombing at the famed Ajmer Dargah Sharif that killed three people has been detained in Madhya Pradesh and brought to Rajasthan, police sources here said Sunday.

The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Rajasthan Police held Vishnu Prasad late Saturday in Shahjahanpur in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh. He has now been brought to Jaipur for interrogation.

Prasad was picked up for his alleged role in procuring mobile phones and SIM cards used in the terror strikes, police sources said.
