Kolkata : The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Tuesday filed a complaint with the West Bengal State Election Commission alleging that Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee was trying to incite communal tension through her speeches in election meetings in the city.

Refering to a meeting at Hazra in South Kolkata, ruling CPI-M state secretary Biman Bose said in his complaint that Banerjee had in two recent meetings said that she had seen a secret report that the CPI-M had hatched a conspiracy to spark off communal riots in some localities of the city.

Hyderabad : The third anniversary of the bomb blast at historic Mecca Masjid here passed off peacefully amid tight security.

No untoward incident was reported from any part of the city, police said. The afternoon and evening prayers at the 17th century mosque passed off peacefully as police made elaborate security arrangements.

A tight vigil was maintained across the old city after unidentified gunmen killed a policeman last Friday. The motorcycle borne suspected terrorists shot dead the police constable at Shahali Banda, about a km from Mecca Masjid.

Panaji : Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat Tuesday said any decision on banning rightwing Hindu outfit Sanatan Sanstha (SS), eleven of whose members were charge sheeted Monday for the Diwali-eve blasts in the state last year, will be taken after studying the charges.

He told reporters that there was no question of banning the outfit until the charge sheet filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was examined by the state home ministry.

Lucknow: The Wazirganj police in Lucknow on Tuesday arrested another youth who was wanted in a case of murderous assault on Naib Imam, Aishbagh Eidgah, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahli, outside the Eidgah on Monday evening.

The youth arrested was identified as Abuzar Kidwai of Sadatganj. The police arrested Kidwai when he was about to surrender in court. Kidwai was arrested from near Balrampur hospital around 12.50 pm on Tuesday.

Kolkata : The Calcutta High Court Tuesday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a fresh probe into the death of Muslim youth Rizwanur Rahman, whose mysterious death after his marriage with the daughter of a rich Hindu businessman in 2007 had sparked widespread outrage.

The court, acting on a complaint filed by Rizwanur's brother Rukbanur Rahman, asked the CBI to conduct a fresh probe by starting a murder case.

Malappuram: Letters have been sent to all Hajj applicants of this year from the state informing them of their cover numbers, informed the Kerala Hajj Committee. Those applicants who had applied continuously since 2007 and have not been selected yet will be selected directly if they have applied this year. Their cover numbers will bear the code KLR, whereas the code for all others is KLF.
