Kashmir's Kani shawl gets GI rank

Srinagar: Kashmir's Kani Shawl has got the Geographical Indication (GI) rank that would legally prohibit people from selling duplicate Kani shawls made at other places, under the same name.

A Kani shawl is produced on a handloom from Pashmina fiber, which is known world- over as cashmere wool and comes from goats.

Kani shawls are woven on looms and also widely known as Jamawar. Two other shawls, Pashmina and Kashmiri Sozni have also got the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

Records show two dates of birth for Delhi blast accused

New Delhi: Principals of two former schools attended by Indian Mujahideen terror suspect and Delhi serial blast accused Salman Ahmad have produced in a city court documents that point to two different dates of birth of the accused.

Principal of Mumbai's Brihan Mumbai Mahanagar Palika School Rita Mandal Tuesday appeared before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja and produced admission forms showing Ahmad's date of birth as Feb 9, 1992.

Need to monitor welfare schemes: Khurshid

New Delhi: Government-sponsored welfare schemes need to be monitored so that the benefits reach the targeted sections effectively, Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said Tuesday.

"Wherever there are schemes for the welfare of people, especially for the poorer sections of the society, their implementation needs to be monitored so as to ensure that the benefits actually reach the people in an effective way," Khurshid said.

A fact-finding report on communal violence in Hyderabad

The team met both Hindus and Muslims and visited affected religious places. The residents told the team the violence was politically motivated and pre-planned. Rahmani-30 declares entrance test results for Class X

Patna: The Rahmani-30 coaching centre for IIT-JEE declared the result for the written test held on 3rd April 2010 for class 10th students. In total 6788 students had appeared in the test in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal for admission at the Patna-based free residential coaching centre.

Out of 6786 students, 235 have cleared the written test and they have been called for interview.

Following is the list of successful candidates selected for interview. The interview will be held on 25th April 2010 at Rahmani-30 in Patna.
