Rahmani-30 to be emulated in South India

Bangalore: The success of Rahmani-30 coaching centre for IIT entrance has inspired South India Muslims also. Emulating the model of the Patna-based centre run by Rahmani Foundation under the guidance of eminent Islamic cleric Maulana Mohammad Wali Rahmani, LEAD Trust, a Bangalore-based NGO, has set up a similar centre in the Karnataka capital city. Entrance test for admission at LEAD-Rahmani30 will be held on April 18 in both Karnataka and Kerala.

Zakia satisfied with key Gujarat cops' removal from SIT

Gandhinagar: The widow of former Congress MP Ehsan Jaffri Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the Supreme Court order to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to keep two senior Gujarat police officers away from investigations into the 2002 communal riot cases during which her husband was killed.

Zakia Jaffri said she was opposed to the inclusion of the Gujarat cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officers Geetha Johri and Shivanand Jha in the SIT because their approach to investigations of the communal riots cases was "blatantly partisan."

Gujarat fails to pay damages, court warns of contempt

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat High court Tuesday warned the state government of contempt proceedings if it fails to clarify within a week whether it intends to pay compensation to a petitioner who suffered losses during the post-Godhra riots in 2002.

The court order dated Dec 23, 2009, had allowed time till Jan 20, 2010, to the state government to pay the compensation after its counsel sought time to obtain instructions from the government.

The government failed to submit its affidavit in this matter till date.

Apex court removes two Gujarat cops from riots probe panel

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Tuesday removed two senior Gujarat police officers from its special probe panel investigating various cases of the post-Godhra communal riots in the state.

A bench of Justice D.K. Jain, Justice P. Sathasivam and Justice Aftab Alam took Gujarat Inspector General of Police Geetha Johri and Deputy Inspector General of Police Shivanand Jha off the special investigation team, headed by former Central Bureau of Investigation director A.K. Raghvan.

Patna: While Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar (JD-U) has claimed to work for betterment of Urdu Language in the state – where it is second official language – his ruling partner BJP has been disproving the claim. After state Finance Minister Shushil Kumar Modi (BJP) cut 33% of the aid to Bihar Urdu Academy in the current budget, Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Tara Kant Jhan (BJP) has now removed the posts of Urdu reporters in the Council.

Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University has decided to drop Hyderabad as Centre for its Admission Test this year due to disturbances in the Andhra Pradesh capital. The applicants who have chosen Hyderabad city as their first choice for admission test will be allotted the city of their second choice. And those who did not mention their second choice in the form will be directly contacted by the university about their new admission test centre.
