File charges in 2008 blast case by May 15: Court to police

New Delhi: A city court Saturday allowed Delhi Police 30 days' time to finish their investigation and file a chargesheet against two suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorists for their alleged roles in serial blasts in 2008.

Additional Sessions Judge Santosh Snehi Mann ordered the Special Cell of the police to file the chargesheets by May 15 against Mohammed Shahjad and Salman Ahmad, arrested in February and March respectively this year.

Kalyan Singh demands amendment to women's quota bill

Lucknow: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rebel and founder of the Jan Kranti Party (JKP) Kalyan Singh Saturday said his party was in favour of the women's reservation bill but not in its present form and urged that it be amended.

"The bill in its present form will help a limited number of people. It is not in the interest of women belonging to the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes and economically weak sections," Singh told reporters in Jaunpur district, some 250-km from Lucknow.

Kashmir man claims slain father was no terrorist

Srinagar: The family of a 70-year-old man killed by the army on April 14 in north Kashmir's Kupwara district has refuted claims that he was a separatist guerrilla.

"Raj Mohammad Khan, a resident of Devar Lolab village, has come forward and identified the photograph of the 70-year-old man as his father Habibullah Khan," a police officer in Kupwara said Saturday.

Telangana Muslim group submits memo to Srikrishna Committee

Patna: The Telangana Muslim Joint Action Committee has made a presentation before the Srikrishna Committee in Hyderabad and submitted a 13-page memorandum with the Central government appointed committee looking into the case of separate Telangana state movement. The Muslim group gave details about the "discrimination of Telangana region, and Muslims," in the united Andhra Pradesh since its formation in 1956.

Dalit leader accepts Islam, pens a book

New Delhi: After 52 years of struggle, a well known dalit leader in Tamil Nadu, T. M. Mani, accepted Islam. The English version of his book "End of Casteism" will be released in New Delhi on Sunday, 18 April 2010.

Mr. T.M. Mani waged a long war against casteism and caste atrocities. He fought ferociously for 52 years and at the end, accepted Islam. His struggle's sufferings and achievements are detailed in this book.

IPS officer seeks bail in Gujarat fake gun battle case

Gandhinagar: Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Dinesh M.N. Friday moved the Gujarat High Court for bail after a lower court rejected his plea in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake gun battle case last week.

"I have been in judicial custody for the last three years and so my plea for interim bail may be considered. I am an IPS officer and would abide by the conditions that the court may impose on me," the officer has stated in his application.

Gujarat challenges SIT power to summon Modi

New Delhi: The Gujarat government Friday contended that neither can the Supreme Court halt trials of various post-Godhra riot cases and nor can the special probe panel appointed by it summon Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others accused in the murder of ex-Congress MP Ehasan Jafri.

The state government's contentions came in an affidavit filed in the apex court's registry late Friday evening in response to probe report of the Special Investigation Team, headed by former CBI director R.K. Raghavan.
