Sohrabbudin killing: Cop says CBI wants her to implicate Shah Posted: 28 Aug 2010 09:30 AM PDT By IANS, New Delhi : Gujarat police official Geetha Johri has moved the Supreme Court alleging that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was mounting pressure on her to point an accusing finger towards some politicians, including former minister Amit Shah, in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh killing. Additional Inspector General of Police Johri said in her petition filed Thursday that the CBI was forcing her to name as accused some politicians, including former Gujarat minister of state for home Amit Shah, who is currently in judicial custody. |
Kashmir's stone-pelters may be released before Eid Posted: 28 Aug 2010 08:16 AM PDT By IANS, Jammu : The Jammu and Kashmir government is thinking of setting free more than 700 stone-pelters arrested during the past two months in the Kashmir Valley, as a "goodwill gesture" on the eve of Eid next month, officials Saturday said. The release of the stone-pelters and their reunion with their families would help calm tempers in the Valley, where voices calling for restraint and understanding the psyche of the stone throwers have gained momentum. |
Top Kashmir woman separatist leader arrested Posted: 28 Aug 2010 07:21 AM PDT By IANS, Srinagar : Hardline woman separatist leader Asiya Andrabi, believed to be one of the masterminds of the current unrest in the Kashmir Valley, was arrested from a hideout here Saturday, police said. Andrabi was arrested from Zakura on the city outskirts, a police officer told IANS. The chief of the women's separatist outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Andrabi was issuing shutdown calendars through emails to the media and was one of the brains behind the turmoil in the valley, police said. |
RTI application in Urdu a legal right Posted: 28 Aug 2010 12:07 AM PDT By TCN News, Allahabad (UP): Right to Information (RTI) application can be filed in Urdu in Utter Pradesh, said Deepak Sindh, the Central Information Commissioner. In an order against the chief general manager of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Lucknow, he said that Urdu is the second language of the state and according to section 5(5) of RTI, it is a legal right of very citizen of the state to submit RTI applications in the language. He also ordered to constitute a panel of experts of the language to deal with applications which are filed in Urdu. |
Curfew in Srinagar to prevent separatist march Posted: 27 Aug 2010 10:38 PM PDT By IANS, Srinagar : Normal life was paralysed here again Saturday as authorities clamped curfew to prevent a protest march called by separatists. "Curfew has been imposed in Srinagar city as a precautionary measure so that separatists are prevented from inciting youth to violence," a police officer said here. Curfew was also imposed in north Kashmir's Sopore town and Kunzar village in Baramulla district. "Restrictions have also been imposed in some areas of central Badgam district," the officer added. |
Caste census will be de-linked from Biometric stage Posted: 27 Aug 2010 10:22 PM PDT By TCN News, New Delhi: PM Manmohan Singh and Pranab Mukherjee assured a delegation of intellectuals and social activists that government of India will delink the caste census from Biometric stage and Caste Column will be included in the proposed House Hold Schedule. The delegation also briefed Mr. Mukherjee, who heads the GoM on Caste Census, about the Methodology of Caste Inclusion in the House Hold Schedule to be enumerated from February 2011. The Minister appreciated the inclusions suggested by the delegations in the proposed Schedule. |
