Mirwaiz asks for "complete freedom" not autonomy for Kashmir Posted: 13 Aug 2010 06:52 AM PDT By Sofi Iqbal, Agence India Press Srinagar: Authorities had removed all restrictions in Srinagar to allow people to join the Friday prayers, the day being the first Friday of the holy month of Ramadan which began here Thursday. Thousands of people attended Friday prayers at historic Jamia Masjid of Srinagar today after six weeks of break due to nonstop curfew and restrictions in the city. Thousands of people reached the grand mosque both individually and in processions. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also delivered the Friday sermon and addresses a huge gathering in mosque. |

Scholarship quota for Bihar will be raised, if it performs well: Salman Khurshid Posted: 13 Aug 2010 02:43 AM PDT By TCN Staff reporter, New Delhi: The Ministry of Minority Affairs (MMA) is discussing proposal to raise the quota of Scholarship for Bihar, said Adil Hasan, convener, Surjapuri Vikas Parishad (SVP), a Bihar based voluntary organization, working in the area of Muslim and Dalit welfare. Mr. Hassan was briefing media persons, after meeting Salman Khurshid, Minority Affairs Minister. The Minister told him that if Bihar performs well, on the front of providing scholarship to the minority students, the scholarship quota for the state will be raised. |

Two die in Kashmir clashes, toll rises to 53 Posted: 12 Aug 2010 11:40 PM PDT By IANS, Srinagar : Two people, including an elderly man, died in Jammu and Kashmir Friday as security forces fired at curfew-defying mobs indulging in stone-pelting. With this, the toll in the present unrest that started June 11 rose to 53. "Ali Muhammad Khandey, 60, was killed when police opened fire to disperse an unruly mob defying curfew restrictions in Pattan town in Baramulla district (about 30 km from here). One protester sustained injury in the incident," a senior police officer said. |
