Seven more killed in another day of violence in Kashmir Posted: 02 Aug 2010 08:33 AM PDT Srinagar: An eight-year-old boy was the latest fatality here Monday in the violence sweeping the Kashmir Valley, taking the number of those killed during the day to seven - including five in police firing - and the toll since Friday to 21. The boy, Sameer Ahmed Rah, succumbed to his injuries in a hospital here following a clash between protesters and security personnel in the uptown Batmaloo area. While residents alleged Sameer was beaten by police, police said he was injured in the stampede when security forces took action against the protesters. |
Jethmalani to seek recall of Sohrabuddin case from CBI Posted: 02 Aug 2010 08:30 AM PDT By IANS, Ahmedabad: Senior advocate Ram Jethmalani, who is representing Gujarat's former minister of state for home Amit Shah in the Sohrabuddin Shaikh killing case, Monday said he intends to move the Supreme Court seeking recall of its order handing over investigations of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Addressing the media here, Jethmalani said that the CBI's case lacked substance and did not have any "credibility". "I still don't know what their case is and what it is trying to prove," he added. Jethmalani blamed the media for "unfair" reporting. |

I thought that English was introduced in our education system – along with the 'modern' subjects – to give us some more ideas. I thought that I will encounter more analysis and more objectivity (which of course I do many a times). But I come across it less frequently. I mostly read Urdu even though it is English. |

The central cabinet's security panel discussed the situation but did not take any decision. The law and order situation has deteriorated with violent protests rocking most cities and towns and mobs attacking police stations, police camps, vehicles on the highways and also beating up trapped security men. |
