Gujarat opposes handing over Ishrat case to CBI Posted: 19 Jul 2010 09:29 AM PDT By IANS, Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government Monday strongly opposed handing over the probe into the Ishrat Jahan killing case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Advocate General Kamal Trivedi told a division bench of Justice Jayant Patel and Justice Abhilasha Kumari that entrusting of the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake gunfight case by the Supreme Court to the CBI was no reason for entrusting the June 2004 Ishrat case to the central agency. |
Kashmir observes strike; tension in Batmaloo over a civilian death Posted: 19 Jul 2010 08:54 AM PDT By Sheikh Imran Bashir, Agence India Press, Srinagar: Official restrictions were lifted on Monday in the Old City areas of Srinagar but a normal life remains on a standstill across Kashmir valley as a general strike is being observed at the call of the Hurriyat Conference (G) to protest the civilian killings. The Hurriyat group headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for a complete shutdown here Monday against alleged human rights violations and appealed to government employees to carry out peaceful protests. |
Another death in police firing in Kashmir Posted: 19 Jul 2010 08:19 AM PDT By IANS, Srinagar: Violence made a return to the Kashmir Valley Monday - a man was killed in firing by police during protests after the body of teenager who drowned when chased by police was fished out from a river. Marine commandos fished out the body of a 13-year old Faizan Ahmad Buhroo, a Class 7 student, from river Jhelum in Baramulla town late in the afternoon. The body was located by divers some distance away from the spot where the locals alleged he drowned when being chased by police who were after a group of stone pelters. |

Ahmadi as chairman of the Bhopal Memorial Hospital Trust. The court accepted the central government's application to take over the hospital set up for the victims of Bhopal gas tragedy that had taken place in 1984. The bench headed by Chief Justice S.H. Kapadia asked the central government to take steps to wind up the trust. The court placed on record its appreciation of the services rendered by Ahmadi. |
