The capital of the National Minorities Development Finance Corporation (NMDFC) has been raised to Rs.1,500 crore from Rs.1,000 crore, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni told reporters here, after the cabinet took the decision. |

The BJP demanded that the central government identify the role of Pakistani agencies "in sponsoring and financing these protests through separatists". |

"There was no relaxation in the indefinite curfew that was imposed here Wednesday. People stayed indoors and the law and order situation was under control throughout the Valley," a senior police officer told IANS Thursday evening. |

Izhar Wani of the French news agency AFP has been desperate to get home to meet his wife and daughters Saira, 10, and Saba, 6. All three were alone at their home in Sringar's Sunwar area when a teargas shell burst with a loud bang on their front lawn Tuesday. Before they could realise what happened, the gas seeped into the house. |

NMDFC's schemes are targeted at the economic uplift of people of minority communities living below the poverty line through self-employment. NMDFC expects to cater to 87,984 beneficiaries during fiscal year 2010-11. |

Chidambaram Thursday said it was being deployed as a deterrent to help police and paramilitary forces maintain law and order in curfew-bound Srinagar. As strict restrictions continued in many parts of the troubled valley, Chidambaram said Kashmir was peaceful barring "two very minor incidents" of violence Wednesday.
