Fresh violence in Baramulla, 1 person injured Posted: 09 Jul 2010 09:55 AM PDT By AIPTV- Bureau Srinagar: One person has injured in north Kashmir town of Baramulla Friday afternoon, after Police opened fire on the stone-pelting protestors. The injured person has been identified as Suhail Ahmad Jarnail, of Kakarhamam locality in the town. According to reports, a group of people took out a demonstration on Friday afternoon in the town. As the procession was stopped by the Police, the protesters hurled stones. Soon, the Police opened fire injuring the youth. |

"Curfew has been relaxed in wake of a festival at Hazratbal Shrine. Relaxation will continue till Saturday evening," Pillai told state-run Doordarshan Kendra. The curfew was relaxed in all parts of the Kashmir Valley from 8 p.m. onwards, the official added. The head cleric of Srinagar had Friday appealed to the state government to relax the curfew so that people could observe the Shab-e-Meraj religious festival. |
Strike in Jharkhand over idol theft, Muslims lend support Posted: 09 Jul 2010 08:06 AM PDT By IANS, Ranchi : Several parts of Jharkhand, including the state capital, shut down Friday in response to a strike called by Hindu religious groups, and supported by Muslims, to protest the theft of a three-century-old idol of a Hindu goddess from a revered temple in Ramgarh district. The strike was called by the Hindu religious group, Mahaveer Madal Samiti, and supported by more than a dozen organisations like Kali Sena. The strike was also supported by Muslims. According to police, more than 1,700 people have been arrested from different parts of the state for the strike. |
