BJP may move court against CBI in Sohrabuddin case Posted: 12 May 2010 09:40 AM PDT By IANS, Ahmedabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is keeping its options open on approaching the apex court against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) exceeding its brief in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh murder probe, a party leader said Wednesday. Purshottam Rupala, former state unit chief of the BJP and the party's national vice-president, threatened to intensify its agitation if the federal investigating agency "does not stop exceeding limit". "We will fight at all levels, on the streets, in parliament as well as in courts," he said. |

No 'fatwa' against working women, says Deoband Posted: 12 May 2010 06:21 AM PDT By IANS, Lucknow/New Delhi: Darul Uloom Deoband, India's foremost Islamic seminary, Wednesday denied it has asked Muslim women not to work along with men and said it only suggested that working women should dress "properly". "We had only given an opinion based on Sharia that women need to be properly covered in government and private offices," said Maulana Adnan Munshi, spokesman for the seminary in Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. He denied a media report that the seminary was opposed to men and women working together. |

Of 469 successful candidates in the Engineering Services Exam 2009 conducted by Union Public Service Commission, there are 13 Muslims, that is 2.77%. The UPSC has announced the results of the Engineering Services Examination, 2009. The examination for these services was held in June 2009 and the interviews for Personality Test held in February – March 2010. |

Three get death, 20 sentenced to life in Bathani Tola massacre Posted: 12 May 2010 01:57 AM PDT By IANS, Patna : A Bihar court Wednesday sentenced to death three men and awarded life imprisonment to 20 others in the Bathani Tola massacre case in which 21 Dalits and poor Muslims were killed by members of the upper caste Ranvir Sena in 1996. The sentence was pronounced by Additional District and Sessions Judge of Ara Civil Court Ajay Kumar Srivastava amid high security. The three sentenced to death are Ajay Singh, Manoj Singh and Narendra Singh. The judge convicted 23 accused and acquitted 30 men due to lack of evidence May 5, a court official said. |
