How Ansari, Ahmed were acquitted in terror trial Posted: 03 May 2010 09:59 AM PDT By IANS, Mumbai: Mumbai Police were in for an unexpected embarrassment Monday when a special court picked holes in the prosecution theory on the involvement of Fahim Ansari and Sabauddin Ahmed, the two Indians accused along with Pakistani national Ajmal Amir Kasab in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack case. "The evidence of the prosecution falls short and cannot be accepted… the evidence against Ansari and Ahmed is unreliable," Special Judge M.L. Tahaliyani observed. |

Venkaiah Naidu Monday said the government was free to take action against anyone involved in terrorist activities but incidents of terrorism should not be linked with religion. Talking to reporters here, he said that issues of majority or minority should not be raised in the context of terrorism. Referring to reports about police investigations into the Ajmer dargah blasts, he said the government was free to take action against the guilty without any consideration of religion. |

The sound that started off a century ago is an effort by an engraving artist, Jawahar Hussain to preserve his ancestral art, notwithstanding a meager profit that he makes out of it. Jawahar (76) and his two sons Mohamad Hussain (45) and Dildar Hussain (39) make their living by engraving images on gold and silver and carving out many other state of art products without any machine assistance. |

Court order on age of Salman Ahmad Wednesday Posted: 03 May 2010 08:34 AM PDT By IANS, New Delhi: A city court Monday reserved its order for Wednesday on the claim of 2008 Delhi serial bombing accused Salman Ahmad that he was a minor at the time of the attack. Ahmad had filed an application in the court claiming he was a minor when the serial bombings took place in the capital Sep 13, 2008, killing 26 people and left 135 others injured. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja, after hearing the arguments on behalf of Ahmad and the prosecution, said she will pronounce the order on Ahmad's application on May 5 (Wednesday). |

IPS officer's bail plea rejected in Sohrabuddin case Posted: 03 May 2010 07:54 AM PDT By IANS, Gandhinagar: The Gujarat High Court Monday rejected the bail application of Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Dinesh M.N., an accused in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake shootout case. Earlier in April, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court also rejected his bail application. Dinesh M.N., a Rajasthan cadre IPS officer, mentioned in his plea that investigation of the case has been transferred to the CBI by the Supreme Court and a fresh investigation would take a long time. |

Court allows narco test on Ajmer blast accused Posted: 03 May 2010 05:46 AM PDT By IANS, Ajmer : A court here Monday allowed the Anti-Terrorist Squad of the Rajasthan police to conduct narco test on Devendra Gupta, a suspect arrested for the 2007 bombing at the revered Ajmer Dargah Sharif that killed three people. "The additional chief judicial magistrate has given us permission for conducting the narco test and we now plan to take Gupta to Hyderabad for it," an ATS official told IANS. The ATS while moving an application in the court Saturday said the test was necessary as Gupta was hiding important and critical information relating to the bombing. |
