Shoaib and Sania face fresh trouble Posted: 21 Apr 2010 08:12 AM PDT By IANS, Hyderabad: A day after getting back his passport, Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik and his wife Indian tennis star Sania Mirza Wednesday faced fresh trouble with a city court asking police to look into the complaint that they hurt religious sentiments of Muslims. A Muslim organisation has complained that Shoaib, Sania, Shoaib's first wife Ayesha Siddiqui and 11 others hurt the sentiments of Muslims on the issue of divorce. |
Blast accused's jail cannot be changed, court told Posted: 21 Apr 2010 08:06 AM PDT By IANS, New Delhi: A city court was Wednesday told by the Tihar jail authorities that Indian Mujahideen terror suspect and Delhi serial blast accused Salman Ahmad's plea for transfer to another jail cannot be accepted as it is against the jail manual. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Kaveri Baweja was presented a report by jail officials, in which they opposed Ahmad's plea. The court deferred till April 24 the hearing on an Ahmad's application for a change in his jail on the ground that there was a threat to his life. |
Court tells Gujarat to reconsider madrassa's plea Posted: 21 Apr 2010 06:32 AM PDT By IANS, Gandhinagar : The Gujarat High court has directed the state education department to reconsider a madrassa's plea seeking permission to start class 8 in English medium. Setting aside the department's decision to reject Victoria Jubilee Madrassa's request, Justice K.A. Puj observed that the authorities did not follow the law. According to the petitioner institution, it had sent a proposal to the state education board for opening class 8 in English medium but it was rejected without any hearing. |

Take it. Of 834 Lower Division Clerks recruited by the government in February and March this year, only 16 are Muslims. That is less than 2% while the community constitutes more than 25% of the state population. |

They say the Bihar Coaching Institute (Control and Regulation) Bill 2010 will just industrialize the coaching profession as only big capitalists could fulfill all requirements of the law, and this will directly affect the students as they will have to pay higher fees. |

Dozens of policemen descended on Taj Hotel to seal it ahead of Wednesday's seminar on the role of Kashmiri separatist leaders. Police detained human rights activist Mohammad Ahsan Untoo, who had organised the seminar, as well as Javaid Mir, chairman of a faction of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front and others. |
