Prof Akhtarul Wasey appointed vice chairman of Delhi Urdu Academy Posted: 07 Apr 2010 11:13 AM PDT By TCN News New Delhi: Renowned Islamic Scholar and Head of the Department of Islamic Studies at Jamia Milia Islmia, Professor Akhtarul Wasey has been appointed vice chairman of Delhi Urdu Academy. Delhi CM Mrs. Shila Dixit who is also chairman of Delhi Urdu Academy has issued notification today for appointment of Prof Wasey. Earlier, many noted personalities have held this post. They include Kunwar Mahindar Singh Bedi, Ghulam Rabbani Taban, Prof Gopi Chand Narang, Prof Qamar Rayees and M. Afzal. |

A caravan of peace activists drawn from different parts of the country visited the Kumbh, met Hindu sadhus men and women, lived in their camps and talked about Hindu-Muslim unity – a must to keep India united and flourishing. Sadhus were surprised to see the caravan – some of its members sporting Muslim skullcap – but embraced them for the noble work they were doing. |
Indian ulema ready to intervene for 17 Indians facing death sentence in UAE Posted: 07 Apr 2010 09:02 AM PDT by Faisal Fareed, TwoCircles.net Lucknow: As the fate of 17 Indians facing death sentence in UAE still hangs in balance muslim ulemas and clerics have launched an intiative for their release on compassionate grounds. "There is a provision of 'maafi' (forgiveness) in Islam. The Indian national may have been tried as per the law still on human grounds our government should take some bold intiative," said Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahli, the Naib Imam of Aishbagh Eidgaah. He even suggested that diplomatic dialogue should be initiated so that their death sentence could be commuted. |
Apex court stands by critical remarks against Johri Posted: 07 Apr 2010 08:20 AM PDT By IANS, New Delhi: The Supreme Court Wednesday dismissed Gujarat's Inspector General of Police Geetha Johri's plea to expunge its critical remarks against her for alleged lapses during the probe into the killings of Ujjain youth Sohrabuddin Sheikh, his wife and family friend by the state police in a staged gun battle in November 2005. A bench of Justice Aftab Alam and Justice Cyriac Joseph dismissed Johri's plea saying the remarks made by the court against Johri's lapses were "fair enough" and need no deletion. |

Central Information Commission conducted a hearing today on an old RTI petition seeking autopsy report from the Delhi Police. |

Obituary: Mufti Abdul Latif Qasmi, Shahar Qazi of Bhopal Posted: 07 Apr 2010 03:00 AM PDT By Manzar Imam, Mufti Abdul Latif Qasmi, city qazi of Bhopal died of cardiac arrest on 4 April 2010. Mufti Sahab complained of chest pain around 4am following which he was rushed to Chirayu Hospital where he was declared brought dead. He was 63 and is survived by wife, three sons and six daughters. For some time he had been suffering from diabetes. |
