See Munde's remark on OBC quota in context, says BJP Posted: 11 Apr 2010 10:18 AM PDT By IANS, New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said Sunday that its position on the women's reservation bill has not changed, and the remarks of party leader Gopinath Munde about a quota for other backward classes (OBCs) in the bill should be seen in context of his presence at an OBC meeting. "There is need to understand the context as he (Munde) was attending an OBC meeting. His remarks were in the spirit of discussions at the meeting," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman told IANS. |
'Fatwa' against Sania, Shoaib for living together before marriage Posted: 11 Apr 2010 05:12 AM PDT By IANS, Hyderabad : Tennis star Sania Mirza's marriage with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik has sparked another row with some religious scholars issuing a 'fatwa' or religious edict against their living and mingling freely even before the marriage is solemnised. Sunni Ulema Board, a group of religious scholars, said both the sportspersons were bringing disrepute to Islam and Muslim community through their actions. The board issued a 'fatwa' terming their actions 'haram' (forbidden) and asked Muslims to stay away from the April 15 marriage. |
