Patil Thursday denied that the 2008 Malegaon blast accused had hatched a conspiracy to eliminate the then Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh general secretary Mohan Bhagwat, who now heads the organisation. However, Patil said that the accused of the Malegaon blast, during some conversations - tapes of which the police have procured - had spoken about "a chemical powder" which could kill a person in two-three days if applied to his footwear. |
Kerala court stays government-aided Islamic banking Posted: 08 Apr 2010 05:04 AM PDT By IANS, Kochi: The Kerala High Court Thursday in an interim order restrained the government or state-run organisations from starting Islamic banks, but allowed a private company to start its operations. The bench headed by Chief Justice J. Chalameshwar allowed Al-Baraka Company to go ahead with its operations. Former union minister Subramaniam Swamy and one more person had petitioned the court against state-owned Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation starting an Islamic bank with private collaboration. |

The shutdown is likely to coincide with a scheduled debate over the bill in the state legislature Friday. |

With his death, the toll in the communal riots has risen to three. Narasimha, 54, a resident of Lal Darwaza area, who was stabbed by unidentified people in Hussaini Alam police station area on the night of March 28, died at the Osmania Hospital Wednesday night. |
