PFI first state conference in Tamil Nadu

Popular Front of India successfully started its first state conference - Resurgence, today on Madurai Tippu Sultan ground, Vandiyoor ring road, Madurai. All India Imams Council state president Abdul Kader Muneeri prayed the Almighty for the success of the conference. Four officers took the flag to the state president M. Mohamed Ali Jinnah by a well disciplined flag march.

Global interfaith dialogue begins in Delhi

New Delhi: The International Dialogue Between Islam & Oriental Religions began in New Delhi today with religious and community leaders calling for unity on the basis of common values shared by the religions in Asia. "Initiation of the dialogue is timely as such dialogues have already started between Islam and Judaism and Christianity," said Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India while inaugurating the 2-day conference.

Thousands attend RUC rally in Lucknow

Lucknow: Thousands of workers converged at Mini Stadium in Vikas Nagar during the rally organised by Rashtriya Ulema Council (RUC) on Saturday. The Congress remained at their target as RUC leaders decried its anti-muslim approach.

The rally was organised exactly after one year by the Azamgarh based Rashtriya Ulama Council (RUC) formed in wake of Batla House encounter in 2008. Earlier, on February 20, 2009 it has held a rally at historical Tile Wali Masjid in Lucknow.

Kerala Govt women cell to facilitate poor girls for engineering courses

Kannur: The Women Empowerment Cell of Kerala Government is aiming to give engineering education for selected candidates. The girls who have passed science stream in +2 examinations will be given admission to three months engineering course of Indira Gandhi National Open University.

"The girls are taught engineering to give technical help to the cell which will give those girls jobs in field of women empowerment and enlarge the reach of the cell to every section of the society," said the director of the cell.

Over a dozen injured in Kashmir clashes

Srinagar: Over a dozen people, including policemen, were injured in clashes between stone-pelting protesters and the security forces in Srinagar and other towns of Kashmir Saturday.

Stone-pelting youth engaged the police and the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in pitched battles in Srinagar's Maisuma area and Sopore and Baramulla towns in north Kashmir.

Police used batons and fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesters.

Mufti wants national consensus on Kashmir

Jammu: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has called for a national consensus to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute with Pakistan.

Speaking at a rally at Kalu Chak near here, Mufti Sayeed said: "There was no substitute to resolving this festering sore that has dampened the immense economic potential of South Asian region for decades and bruised the body and soul of Jammu and Kashmir."
