Godhra panel to complete report in 3-4 months

Gandhinagar: The Nanavati-Mehta Judicial Inquiry Commission probing the Godhra train carnage and the post-Godhra communal riots in Gujarat, is expected to complete its report in the next three to four months.

This was stated in a letter the commission submitted before a division bench of the Guijarat High Court in Ahmedabad Monday.

The letter put up before the bench of Chief Justice S.J. Mukhopadhyaya and Justice Anant Dave stated that the commission is in the process of recording its findings and was likely to complete the report in the next three to four months.

JNU also taking madrasa students in 1st year of degree courses

New Delhi: After Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia, Jawaharlal Nehru University has also started taking madrasa pass-outs in the first year of graduation courses. This is second academic year that JNU is allowing madrasa pass-outs. Earlier the university would take them only in second year of three-year degree courses.

The admission application process in JNU has started in the first week of February. Last date of form submission is 15th March and (5th March by post).

Cops to question BSF officer in Kashmir boy's killing

Srinagar: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the killing of a 17-year-old youth Feb 5 here is to summon a senior Border Security Force (BSF) officer for questioning over allegations that he ordered his junior officer to fire at the boy.

BSF Commanding Officer R.K. Birdi has already been suspended and attached to the Srinagar headquarters of the paramilitary force to ensure his availability for questioning.

CIM condemns Shahid Azmi's murder, Pune blast, demands independent inquiry

London: UK based Council of Indian Muslims (CIM) strongly condemned the murder of Advocate Shahid Azmi as well as Pune blast, and demanded the Indian Government to institute an independent inquiry into both the cases.

Terming the murder of Adv. Azmi as an attack on India's democratic system and its judiciary, the CIM has suspected that Pune blast may also be the handiwork of the same forces that were involved in Mr Azmi's assassination. Centre likely to announce Rs 1 crore for clue about Pune blast

The government admits that it is yet to get vital clues about terrorists who executed blast, and so is mulling a reward of Rs1 crore to anyone who gives vital clues about the German Bakery blast.

E-management training programme for Waqf boards

Bhopal : In a step towards e-management of properties affiliated to Muslim shrines and mosques, the Minorities Affairs Ministry Monday began a three-day training programme here to familiarise Waqf board officers with computerisation and digitisation of records.

The programme will train Waqf board officers in digital accounting, auditing and budgeting, an official statement said.

Twenty-seven officers from 17 state Waqf boards are participating in the programme at R.C.V.P. Norohana Academy of Administration and Management in the Madhya Pradesh capital.

Apex court seeks Gujarat stand on 64 terror suspects transfer

New Delhi : The Supreme Court Monday sought the Gujarat government's stand on a joint plea by 64 suspected terrorists, allegedly involved in the 2008 serial bombings in five Indian cities, for shifting their trial outside the state.

A bench of Justice Altmas Kabir and Justice T.S. Thakur sought the state's stand on the plea by the suspects languishing in Sabarmati jail at Gandhinagar.

Habibullah stays as CIC, tells Omar can't take RTI post

New Delhi : Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Wajahat Habibullah, who resigned last year to head the Jammu and Kashmir State Information Commission (JKSIC), says he will continue in his present post and has met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to convey the decision.

In a decision that has disappointed many rights activists in Jammu and Kashmir, Habibullah told Abdullah that the central government had been unable to "relieve" him and asked to him to appoint information commissioners for the state's newly set up Right to Information (RTI) commission.

Bhopal: The Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), stunned at the brutal murder of Advocate Shahid Azmi of Mumbai has urged the Maharashtra Government to order Central Bureau of Investigation, (CBI), probe into the assassination.

Adv. Shahid, who was defending one of the co-accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, the accused in the Mumbai train serial blasts and other terror related cases in which Muslim youths have been arrested, was assassinated by unidentified persons in his office on Thursday last.

Azamgarh: A team of Association for Welfare, Medical, Educational and Legal Assistance, Azamgarh, in the leadership of its president Dr Javed Akhtar visited Adv Shahid Azmi's village Ibrahimpur in the district yesterday to offer their condolences to the bereaved family members. Adv Azmi was murdered in his Mumbai office on February 11. The police are yet to arrest culprits.
