Haryana approves setting up of cow commission

Chandigarh : The cow may be an important political and religious issue for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), but the ruling Congress in Haryana Tuesday took a lead in setting up a cow commission in the state.

The Haryana Gau Seva Aayog Bill, 2010, was passed by the Haryana assembly here Tuesday, on the concluding day of its monsoon session. The bill was moved by Animal Husbandry Minister Paramvir Singh.

Kerala: No need of NIA probe into attack on college lecturer

Thiruvananthapuram: On Monday, 6th September, the Kerala government told the High Court that the state police has been probing the attack by PFI activists on TJ Joseph, the lecturer of Newman college, in an effective manner with some breakthrough. So there was no need to assign this case to the National Investigative Agency (NIA).

The statement was part of a fresh counter-affidavit filed by the Deputy Secretary (Home)
in the court while it was hearing a petition seeking a probe into the incident by the NIA.

Each year when the sound of a particular siren is heard in the Jama Masjid area of old Delhi, people begin the first fast of Ramazan. They go to the neighborhood mosque as soon as they hear the call Azan for Morning Prayer. This year, the crowd includes a little child, holding his father's fingers as he comes to the mosque. The child had woken up four hours earlier than usual with others in the home. Although the child's mother told him he was too young to fast, he did not listen and kept the fast.

Sufism is much misunderstood by both Muslims and non-Muslims alike. While Muslims think that Sufis are innovators in the religion and qabr-parast (grave worshipper) and therefore unacceptable, non-Muslims think that Sufism offers a peaceful alternative to violent face of Islam and therefore acceptable to them. The truth is somewhere between these two extremes and as Sadia Dehlvi aptly states in her book "Sufism: The Heart of Islam" it is "the spiritual undercurrent that flows through Islam."
