MPJ stages dharna in Mumbai for free food to poor

Mumbai: The Movement for Peace & Justice (MPJ) Maharashtra today organised a dharna cum at FCI Godown Reay Road here in Mumbai, demanding free food for the poor in the light of the recent Supreme Court verdict. It demanded immediate release of 35kg grains to BPL families.

Bihar Assembly poll dates announced

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India today announced the schedule of elections in Bihar. Polls will be held in six phases from October 21 and counting of votes will take place on November 24. The term of the 243-member Assembly, currently led by JD(U)-BJP combine, is ending on November 27.

With the announcement of dates, the moral code of conduct has become operational with immediate effect.

BJP again takes Ayodhya issue to high pitch

Lucknow : The Ayodhya temple issue that helped the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) come to power in the past appears to be taking a dominant position once again with a meeting of the party's Uttar Pradesh executive concluding Sunday by taking it to a high pitch.

Can’t investigate Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case: SIT

Ahmadabad: The Special Investigative Team, (SIT) has excused itself from the investigation of Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case. In a letter written to the Gujarat High Court, the SIT has said that it is already burdened with the investigation of several cases related to Post-Godhra riot.

On 12th of August 2010, the Gujarat HC had instructed the SIT to investigate Ishrat Jahan case and submit its report within 3 months. The HC had given this instruction dismissing the plea filed by Ishrat's family seeking the transfer of the case to the CBI.

Family gloomy as no trace of 'freed' cops

Ranchi : The family of Ehsan Khan was happy Sunday morning when the news came that the Maoists had released him and the other two abducted Bihar policemen, but a pall of gloom again descended on them when there was no trace of the trio till the evening.

RSS seeks consensus on Ramjanmabhoomi issue

Kolkata : The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sunday pitched for a national consensus on the controversial Ram Janmabhomi issue and said parliament should discuss the matter after a court delivers its judgment later this month.

"We want that a national consensus be created on the issue," RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav said in an interaction with the media.

"We also want that after the court delivers the verdict, there should be discussion in parliament on the issue to create a consensus. As it is the government which will implement the court's verdict," he said.
