Rampur: "As a historian I want to say that there was no Mandir in Ayodhya at all. Before 19th century there was not even imagination about the Mandir there but only after that it was propagated. No historian has written that Mughal emperors used the means of conversion for extension of their government. It is totally baseless that they brought down thousands of Mandirs and forced people to accept Islam" said famous historian and former professor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Harbans Mukhiya.

Sania family keeps mum on proposed marriage with Shoaib

Hyderabad: There was no confirmation or denial Monday from the family of Indian tennis star Sania Mirza's family that she is set marry Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.

Sania's father Imran Mirza and other family members were not available to comment on reports by a Pakistani television channel that former Pakistani captain would marry Sania.

According to Geo News, Shoaib Malik's mother met the family of Sania, and sought Sania for her son. The channel claimed that Sania's family has accepted the proposal and the two families are all set to conduct the engagement the two.

Srinagar: With the arrival of summer season, many Bollywood stars have landed in Jammu and Kashmir, for shooting of their upcoming films amid the picturesque locales.

Once a favourite with Bollywood filmmakers, Kashmir had lost out after being rocked with insurgency for over 20 years. The scenic valley is, however, once again being noticed by filmmakers.

The latest film unit to land in Srinagar city is the cast and crew of Bollywood film 'Saat Khoon Maaf' directed by filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj.

No major troop withdrawal, only relocation in JK: Army

Jammu: Contradicting the government's announcement that 35,000 troops were sent out of the border state, the Army on Monday said personnel were only relocated as per security demands and that there was no major pullout.

"There is no major troop pullout or withdrawal in the state. There have been redeployments and relocations of troops as per the security assessment from time to time," Brigadier General Staff (BGS), 16 Corps, Brig Gurdeep Singh told reporters in reply to a question about troop withdrawal.

Hyderabad: Communal violence broke out in the Old City of Hyderabad for the third successive day Monday as groups of people took to the streets to attack each other despite the heavy presence of police and paramilitary forces.

Shops in the markets around historic Charminar downed shutters as people returned home in panic. State-owned Road Transport Corp (RTC) also stopped plying buses on Charminar-Falaknuma road, the busiest road in the area.

AMU to start religious counselling for students

Lucknow : The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will offer religious counselling and spiritual teaching programmes to help students overcome psychological stress, an official said Monday.

"Within two-three days we will launch such programmes," AMU's official spokesperson Rahat Abrar told IANS on telephone from Aligarh, some 300 km from Lucknow.

"On the directions of Vice Chancellor P.K. Abdul Azis, we have roped in religious leaders to help students overcome their anxieties and mental stress," he added.

Hyderabad : United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi and union Home Minister P. Chidambaram spoke to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah over phone to inquire about the situation in Hyderabad after the communal clashes.

Rosaiah informed the state assembly Monday that the Congress president was concerned about clashes in the old part of the city. He also said that 10 companies of paramilitary forces had reached Hyderabad from Delhi in the morning and more forces were on their way.
