Curfew in Sopore, separatist shutdown in Srinagar Posted: 26 Jun 2010 12:57 AM PDT By IANS, Srinagar: Curfew continued Saturday in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore town, a day after the killing of two youths by security forces led to violence, while life in Srinagar was affected by a separatist shutdown. "Curfew continues in Sopore but the situation there is peaceful," a police officer said here. However, there were reports of protesters defying curfew and pelting stones at a few places in Sopore, some 55 km from here. |

Advocate R.A. Sheikh, who represents a few victims of the massacre case, alleged that Bajrangi last Friday threatened him of dire consequences for raising his voice against him. |
Nanavati panel's stand June 30 on summoning Modi Posted: 26 Jun 2010 12:41 AM PDT By IANS, Gandhinagar: The suspense on the stand of the Nanavati-Mehta judicial inquiry commission, probing the 2002 communal riots in Gujarat, on summoning Chief Minister Narendra Modi for questioning will continue till June 30. The state government pleader Friday submitted a sealed cover to Gujarat High Court's special bench of Chief Justice S.J.Mukhopadhyaya and Justice Akil Kureshi containing the commission's stand on the Jan Sangharsh Manch's demand for summoning Modi. The envelope shall be opened in court June 30. |
