500 militants still active in Kashmir: J&K Police Chief Posted: 15 Jun 2010 08:11 AM PDT By Manoj Khar, AIP New Delhi: Only about 500 insurgents, about 40 percent of them foreign militants, are still active in Jammu and Kashmir and peace is not far from the troubled state with a steep drop in violence in the last three years, says J&K state police Chief Kuldeep Khoda. "There are about 500 militants presently active in Jammu and Kashmir and their number has come down from 700-800 last year and around 1,000 in 2008," Khoda said in Delhi where he had come for an official function. |

All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani had in a statement Monday evening asked people to resume normal activities from Tuesday. Commercial and other activities remained paralysed in Saida Kadal for the fourth day today though there was no strike call from any organisation. |

The Pune court has asked Samad to give his address and mobile phone details to the investigating officer. He has also been told that he cannot leave the country without the court's permission. His passport has to be deposited with the investigating officer. |

City roads once again returned to life with most main roads clogged with traffic. The Kashmir University, however, postponed all examinations scheduled for Tuesday. The study conducted by a team of Kasturba Medical College, Manipal and published in International Journal of Diabetes in Developing Countries surveyed people living in coastal Karnataka to estimate the prevalence of diabetes among adults aged 30 years and above. |
