New Delhi: Indian Government has condemned the Israeli military attack on the boats carrying supplies for Gaza and deplored the loss of life of human rights activists on board the flotilla. "There can be no justification for such indiscriminate use of force, which we condemn," said External Affairs Ministry in a press statement.

New Delhi: The National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH), an autonomous organization with the Ministry of Home Affairs, has invited applications for two National Communal Harmony Awards, one each for an individual and an organization. Completed applications should reach NFCH latest by June 30, 2010.

New Delhi: All top Indian Muslim organizations have strongly condemned the Israeli attack on the human aid ships convoy in which about 20 people were killed on Monday morning. While Israel is being condemned by the world community for the bloody attack on civilians, India is yet to say a word on it.

Srinagar : The authorities in Kashmir have sealed an Urdu daily for publishing a photograph of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the party's state unit chief Saifuddin Soz with a derogatory caption.

The Srinagar district administration Monday ordered the police to seal the Alsafa newspaper office here and asked its editor Ashraf Shaban to appear before the district magistrate June 23.

The daily in its May 30 issue carried a photograph of Gandhi's visit to Jammu with a caption derogating Soz and his daughter.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today nominated eminent TV commentator and journalist Farah Naqvi as member of National Advisory Council. In total 14 persons have been nominated by PM for the Council in consultation with Council chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Communal riot in Jodhpur; Idgah, Muslims shops burned

Jaipur: Several Muslim worship places including an Idgah were damaged and several shops of Muslim villagers were burned by rioters in Balesar Durgawta village in Jodhpur, home district of Rajasthan CM Ashok Gahlot. When the police intervened the rioters, mostly from Gahlot's Bandhu Mali caste, pelted stones on police team. In subsequent police firing a rioter was killed.

Samad remanded to judicial custody in ’09 arms case

Mumbai: Abdul Samad Bhatkal, who was picked from Mangalore airport in Pune blast case on May 24, was today remanded to 14-days judicial custody by a local court here in connection with a 2009 illegal arms seizure case. The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) did not seek his further custody.

Hajj: Second phase of applications to be submitted by June 30

Kozhikode: Those applicants who have been selected for Hajj pilgrimage under the state Hajj Committee should submit their second phase of applications by June 30, informed the Kerala Hajj Committee. The application form should be accompanied by passport and receipt of the payment of the first phase amount of Rs 30, 700.

No alliance with Jamaat Islami in panchayat elections: Kerala Muslim League

Thiruvananthapuram: The Muslim League will not have any alliance or relation with the Jamaat-e-Islami in the up-coming three-tier panchayat elections, said PK Kunhalikkutty, Kerala general secretary of the Muslim League.

Kunhalikkutty was speaking at the face-to-face programme organized by the Kesari Memorial Journalist Trust. The Muslim League will strongly oppose the ideas of the Jamaat, he added.

Lucknow : With the help of a team of German experts, the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will offer free treatment for cleft lip, palate and correction of nose deformities, an official said Monday.

"The varsity's department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery has tied up with experts from Germany to offer the treatment that will be free of cost," AMU's Assistant Public Relations Officer Zeeshan Ahmad told reporters in Aligarh, some 300 km from Lucknow.
