Court seeks answer to Muslim woman's 'no' to voters list photo Posted: 22 Feb 2010 09:17 AM PST By IANS, New Delhi: If one Muslim woman is allowed not to have her photograph on the voters' list, thousands of similar applications would be filed, the Supreme Court noted Monday and aked the petitioner to instead think of some workable solution to resolve the tangle. A bench of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Justice Deepak Verma and Justice B.S. Chauhan made the observation while hearing a lawsuit by Madurai resident Ajmal Khan, resenting the display of the photographs of Muslim women in the voters' list. |

Mirwaiz Umer Farooq leads a delegation of his group comprising Professor Abdul Gani Bhat of the Muslim Conference, Moulvi Abbas Ansari of Ittehadul Muslimeen and Agha Syed Hassain of Anjuman-e-Sharie Shiyaan. They are all constituents of the moderate Hurriyat group. |

Special Judge M.L. Tahilyani also rejected Ansari's plea for bail as he wanted to search for a new lawyer after Azmi, his previous lawyer, was shot dead in his Kurla office Feb 11. In his bail plea filed last week, Ansari had claimed, among other things, that Azmi was threatened by police to withdraw from the case. |
