While the opposition protested inside and outside the state assembly against alleged rights abuses, Abdullah spoke about his plans to develop the state. Abdullah, 39, told a gathering after inaugurating a four-lane project here that his government was committed to develop Jammu and Kashmir despite difficulties and obstacles. |
Kashmir separatists meet Pakistan foreign secretary Posted: 24 Feb 2010 07:31 AM PST By IANS, New Delhi: Urging Islamabad to include Kashmiris in the India-Pakistan dialogue process, separatist leaders from the valley met visiting Pakistani Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir here Wednesday, a day before he meets his Indian counterpart Nirupama Rao. The chairman of the hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, was the first to meet Bashir at a hotel in south Delhi. Staunchly pro-Pakistan, Geelani, who has been camping in the capital for medical treatment, refused to give details about the meeting that lasted about 15 minutes. |

Infant's killers to be held in 48 hours: Kashmir minister Posted: 24 Feb 2010 04:36 AM PST By IANS, Jammu : The Jammu and Kashmir government Wednesday announced that the killers of an 11-day-old infant will be arrested within the next two days. Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar said in the state assembly that the people involved in stone pelting that resulted in Irfan's death at Chakla, Baramulla, Monday have been identified. "They would be apprehended within two days," he said. Sagar said a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged in Baramulla police station, and investigations were on. |

The apex court issued the notice on a petition from accused of Batla House and Delhi blasts cases. They had pleaded with the court for clubbing and transfer of their cases. Dr. Javed Akhtar, President, Association for Welfare, Medical, Educational and Legal Assistance, welcomed the court order. |

The air-conditioned Oberon mall which opened last year in March is the state's biggest mall, which has a built up area of 3,50,000 sq ft. The four-theatre multiplex would be run by Mumbai based Cine Max, Mohammed told IANS. |
